gzilla45
Nice job fly. I passed up an 8 yesterday morning that would have been my biggest buck to date but isn't nearly as big as some of the bucks on the farm. I hope I don't regret not shooting it. He stopped at 12 and 17 yards almost asking to be shot. I saw 3 bucks sparring the other night. Things are certainly heating up.
fly
Passing up the biggest deer of your life must be tough gzilla! I passed up several nice deer before deciding on the one I took. Actually, I saw several good deer the first day including a dandy 10-point. I passed on an 8 about the same size (maybe the same one) waiting for the big 10 but it wasn't meant to be. On day 5 of a 7 day public draw hunt anything decent wasn't going down. Good thing to because I didn't get another opportunity at anything bigger on days 6 and 7. Probably looking for a 140+ if I'm to take another this year. Good luck with the big boys on the farm you hunt on.

fly
Go get em hoyt! Things have been real slow here in IL. Haven't seen any rut activity yet. I'm headed out tomorrow to hunt all day so we'll see.
hoytshooter09
been real slow here too only seen a few does and two small bucks. we have a cold front moving through mid week I think that will get things going.
OKstate
I passed a nice 10 pointer on opening day of muzzleloader here in OK.... hoping that the bigger buck follows that same path. The next few hunts were loaded with does, fawns, and small bucks but nothing with any size has come thru in a couple weeks. This cool weather coming and rain should start moving some of the bigger guys around. Good Luck to everyone and hopefully we will have some nice ones on the ground as November starts! fly
I saw three bucks cruising throughout the day on the 1st. The only one in range was a forkhorn. The bigger bucks were not responsive to a grunt call. I'd say it has just started!
gzilla45
I managed to get into my stand for about 7 hours last weekend and didn't see a thing. The weather was terrible but I figured I'd see something. All the activity has been at night. I have a few days off next week to hunt hard so hopefully things pick up. fly
Hang in there Blood Brothers! There is a cold front moving in today along with most does ready to breed. The next 2 weeks should be the best chance to get a mature buck. Go get em!

fly
I've only been able to get in the stand in the mornings for a couple hours before work. So far all the activity on camera is mid-day and not much. Going to KY this weekend then the Shawnee Forest the week after for our traditional Deer camp. May try to get another short bow hunt or two in between the gun hunts. This is my favorite time of the year - having a great time even though I'm not seeing much to shoot. fly
I harvested another doe for the freezer this past weekend. The buck activity was way down and fawns were back with mom.
hoytshooter09
I had a chance at a good buck opening day of rifle season here in mo but missed going out in the morning for one last hunt with the rifle.
fly
Well blood brothers... the rut has ended in my area. I saw a lone 6-pointer eating in a cut corn field and he didn't display any rut behavior. Then a group of 4 does and two fawns moved through. That 6 point was close and should have been harassing them - or something should have been following a group that large. Anyway, I'd like one more deer for the year and would hope to get anoither nice buck. I have a public ground archery only week long draw hunt starting the 7th of December. I'll be taking what comes at that point.
fly
My public ground week long draw hunt starts in the AM. Got a call from the DNR today - they are scheduling a controlled burn for the area I hunt sometime this week. Debating on leaving my stand up - I may just take the lower tree step or two off. I'm not expecting much but one never knows. I haven't seen a shooter buck on camera or on a hunt since October 31st. This draw hunt might be it for me brothers. Has anyone got anything this year? smha6784
Not much activity to speak of here on my end, seems like every weekend I have something going on that ruins my chances of hitting the woods. I still have plenty of time left so dont count me out just yet. How are you guys doing any hunting left ?
fly
That's it for me everyone. Ended my season yesterday with a coyote. It's been fun. The countdown to next season has begun!
