Hope to tag out(6) in Oklahoma and put down a bruiser in Kansas(Nov. 2nd-6th). Looking forward to the season! Name suggestions: Taggin' and Draggin'......Treestand Troubadours....Bleed 'em and Reap(our team name at AT..really like it).
Rhino
Checking in from MS. As far as team names go, I'm fine with whatever y'all decide on. After today I will be bowhunting for the next week or so. Heading to MO tomorrow morning. MO season opened on 9/15 but opted to wait for cooler weather...moves in Saturday. So far got 9 shooters on cams and several more seen feeding in bean fields that haven't shown up on the cams yet. In MO I'm going to try to focus on hunting a big survivor from last year. I say try because there's a couple more main frame 10's in the same general area that I might not be able to pass at the moment of truth. We'll see. My main target buck is this main frame 12 point (late velvet & hard horn pics) with at least 4 NT points over 1". Hope I can check in with updates during the coming hunt. Last year I couldn't post using my MacBook. That was another problem we had last year with the forum software. Lastly, I hope everybody on the team will check in throughout the season and tell the team how their hunts are going as often as possible. Looking forward to it. Rhino
I'm headed to Kansas November 2nd for a 6 day guided hunt at Hickory Creek Outfitters. Will be my first time out of state! Cool!!! Good luck in KS. You'll enjoy hunting with Adam & the rest of the Hickory Creek crew Kevin. Chances are you'll get an opportunity or 2 to fill a tag on a nice buck there. So far in MS I don't have anything special on the cams yet. I had a number of nice bucks on the cams last year that made it through the season though. BTW...We only bowhunt our property in Missouri. That's not going to be the case in MS though...when the gun season opens in MS I'll probably hunt with a rifle more than with a bow. I'm not planning to spend much time in MS until Dec. That is unless I fill my 1st MO archery buck tag with time to spare before the MO gun season opens. We can only kill 1 of our 2 archery bucks in MO prior to the opening of their Nov. gun season (11/14 - 11/24). We also get 1 gun season buck tag in MO but we'll bowhunt then but it's another buck tag opportunity. Thanks for the comments on the buck...he is nice. My buddy that owns most of the MO property has a 16 point (all points come off the main beam) that he's going to target hunting. His buck's area right now is over a mile from the area mine is hanging around. That could easily change once the rut approaches in late October. Rhino
About to hit the woods again here in MO. Got skunked the 1st afternoon. Saw a couple of does & a fawn yesterday afternoon walking a dry creek...no shot. My buddy had a shooter 10 point the 1st afternoon pass by ~25 yards but had a limb in the way. Real bummer is...found an 11 point today dead...EHD kill. Had trail cam pics of him last on 9/10. Mostly decomposed already. Check in later. wtnhunt
Man that is a real shame about the dead buck Al. Figured it might be a bad year here. Hearing about some counties getting hit pretty hard. Was seeing a lot off buzzards flying low over the bottom here a couple weeks ago. Walked part of our side but didn't see any dead animals. Hope you catch up with your target buck.
arrow32
Hate to he's od the dead buck. Hope your having a good hunt!
Rhino
Yep bummer...found 3 dead deer from EHD & smelled another possible one walking out at dark the 1st afternoon. The other 2 we found are a fawn & a 2 year old 8 point. Talked to the largest landowner neighbor Sunday & he said he's found 10 on his property. Needless to say it appears we're having another bad EHD die off again. Sure has us concerned about some of the shooter bucks we haven't gotten on the cams lately. Got some more pics of the big one I'm hunting on 9/13 & 9/14. I'll have to post pics from my desktop when I get home. Hunted near a cedar thicket yesterday afternoon. A big cedar was rubbed close to my stand. Didn't see any deer while hunting...3 while heading out. MCH
Hate to hear the Rhino! Knock on wood, EHD hasn't had a big effect down here. On a side note, they sure are knocking some big ones down in Kansas at Hickory Creek Outfitters. Hope there are some left for me...LOL. Rhino
Yesterday afternoon was a better sit. Saw 3 does, 2 fawns, & what looked like a 3.5 year old 8 point (~135") working a lick branch before he disappeared into the corn field I was hunting. Bucks are starting to scrape here too. Found 2 big scrapes close to my stand yesterday. Found 3 others on the way to the stand I hunted Monday afternoon. May have to adjust some cams to scrapes today & tomorrow. Rhino
Hate to hear the Rhino! Knock on wood' date=' EHD hasn't had a big effect down here.[/quote'] It was bad in MO 3 years ago Kevin but we only found 3 deer dead that year on us...no big bucks. 2 years ago it wasn't too bad but we found 1 big buck. Last year none. This year is already worse than any other & it's still real early. Heard yesterday a neighbor that owns 80 ac. on part of our N side found a big dead buck. We have a couple shooter bucks on the cams that disappeared. Has us concerned they may be gone too. Time will tell.
bbarcheryhunter
Wow rhino . Sorry to hear that .. hope a couple of your big boys live . Good luck
Rhino
It's gotten pretty hot here (temp wise). Deer not moving to close to dark. Saw 1 doe off the stand yesterday afternoon. Hung a new stand hang-on today where a group of trails come together in the timber at a pinch point ~40 yards inside the edge of a corn field. I'll wait to hunt it next trip when the wind is right. Heading home in the morning. I'll probably return when a cool front moves through. BTW...found the remains of another fawn too.

Rhino
Welcome to the team Chris. I drove home from MO yesterday. Heat has the deer mostly nocturnal in MO. I'll wait for a cool spell before I go back there. Season opens in MS on 10/1 but I'm not sure if I want to climb in a stand unless it cools off here too. We'll see. Need to go check my cams in MS though. Haven't checked them in over 3 weeks.
