Rhino
Yep...Pat heard some LOUD hollering! We found him...wildest recovery I've ever seen! First of all Ernie's buck has 17 points that score all coming off the main beam. His biggest ever. I'll post details & pics when I return home tomorrow and can load the pics in my desktop. Here's the highlights... After exhausting our personal efforts we got the name of a guy (highly recommended) with tracking dogs. He arrived yesterday evening with his Blood Hounds. We were out last night till 11:00. Either the dog got off him some time or we were pushing the deer. We covered about 2 miles. This morning back out at first light. We went a long way till we jump the deer the 1st time. He leaves in a slow trot. Jumped him a 2nd time in a creek leaning up against the bank...He climbs the bank and eases off. Third time he beds down was the charm about noon. Dead in his bed. Probably covered another 3 miles this morning. This guy they call Tracker John and his dog is amazing. Without him, there's no way we would have found this one.

Rhino
Just curious as wat he would charge to do something like that ? I know wen u shoot something u want to recover at watever cost it is Cost for us (he came over from Illinois) was $500...we tipped him another $500. In our opinion he went WAY beyond the call of duty to recover Ernie's buck. When we asked him about the longest tracking job he ever had...he said...this was it! Tracker John actually lives in New York. He's contracted by a number of outfitters in Pike & Brown Counties, Illinois to come and track for them each season. While he's in Illinois it's my understanding he stays a Hadley Creek. He has to service those outfitters 1st. If he doesn't have a tracking job to do for them he's free to do the service for others but they come 1st. He's also done several tracking jobs for the Drury's in Iowa & Missouri. He shared some real interesting tracking stories to say the least. One thing we learned from this experience...trust the dog's nose...not your own instinct where you think the deer would go. A couple of times Wednesday morning, Ernie would question why a deer would go that way...then there would be another spot of blood. At times there was gaps of up to 300 yards between spots of blood. He told us a story of one instance when Terry Drury questioned the dog's nose. As it turned out...Terry was wrong & the dog was right too. Rhino
Hunted in MS Saturday afternoon & yesterday afternoon...saw zip. I won't be able to hit the woods till next week. I have to go to a wedding this weekend in Lafayette, LA. I'll drive from there Sunday and spend the night in Memphis, then drive to Missouri in time to hunt next Monday afternoon for ~6 days. Rhino
Thanks guys. The farmer just moved in to start harvesting corn & beans. While harvesting a big field (~170 ac.) near where I'm hunting the big buck they found 7 more dead deer from EHD. That makes 14 dead deer found now & counting. Thank goodness no big bucks were found there. Who knows what else they'll find while harvesting though. Right now they're on a 30 ac. corn field that's also near where I'm hunting the big one. Fingers crossed. Because of the EHD impact this year, we'll probably lay off the does in MO. I can always wack does in MS.

Tominator
I stayed home all weekend, including Friday, battling some sort of virus. Friday and Saturday evening I watched 11 deer filter into my neighbor's field. Nine does and fawns, 2 bucks. The first buck was smallish and he was hanging around a doe. Eight of the does and fawns were off by themselves, while the buck had the one doe all to himself until a bigger buck showed up. These deer were easily 700-800 yards away, so I couldn't really tell points, but the 2nd buck stiff leg walked up to the smaller buck. They circled each other, posturing, then they went at it. At first it was just head butting a little, but as the fight went on, you could tell they were getting serious, heads down on the ground and a lot of shoving. I sat and watched them shove each other for about 10 minutes. The bigger buck ran the little guy off, but he came back and actually got the bigger buck on the run once. The big buck won the last fight, running off the little buck for good, or at least as long as I could see as it go too dark to watch anymore. The boys are getting antsy up here in Ohio. I hope I get to feeling better and I hope to get some time to hunt soon.

Tominator
Thanks. Feeling better, incrementally. It's tough getting old and fighting viruses without a spleen.
Rhino
Cool show Chris...hope you're better real soon. Arrived back in MO Monday. It warmed up here the day I returned...bummer. Seeing does, fawns & young bucks the past 2 afternoons & yesterday morning with the warm temps. Supposed to get into the low 80's today. I may just take today off & get some chores done. It's supposed to cool down some tomorrow through the weekend. I'll be in MO through the Sunday afternoon hunt. BTW...got this email (below) from Gene Wensel last night. Gene & Barry (AKA the Wensel Brothers) are 71 now...as you'll see...still young at heart. I just got back from Costco. I sprained my ankle yesterday. I'm still limping pretty bad today. So I tried one of those old fart electric cripple carts they have in the stores. Pretty entertaining. I would leave Donna for a few minutes, then come up behind her and yell, "WATCH OUT OLD LADY!!" and then pass her basket and drive right on by like I didn't know her. Ha! Everyone within hearing thought I was serious. Then I would wait somewhere else for ten minutes or so, then do it again for a whole new audience. She didn't think it was as funny as I did. I highly recommend it. Very funny. I hope I never grow up. gene
