Bummer Kevin...hope your wish comes true this morning. Heading north this afternoon. I'll spend the night in Memphis with my son then on to NE Missouri Friday morning. I'll be in a stand Friday afternoon and hunt through the 21st. Fingers crossed a shooter walks into bow range.

I had a decent 8 point about 20 yards too far on Saturday night. He came in straight downwind of me. Not a giant, but I was planning on shooting him if he gave me the chance. :D Lots of Ohioans knocking down big deer last few days. Buddy of mine had a 160ish class 11 point bedded 35 yards from his stand for 3 hours, but never got a shot. I'm hoping he gets it, he deserves a deer like that.

Had a great hunt Saturday morning...had a big 8 (so I thought) on a doe coming in. Then I noticed he had a tine broken off...bummer. Had him just inside a 15 yard tree. He snort wheezed at 2 smaller bucks close by. That action called in 3 more small bucks. A 2nd snort wheeze & they all kept their distance. Great show. A little while later 2 young bucks had a short fight 40 yards from my tree...cool. In all that morning I saw 13 bucks & about 15 does & fawns. That afternoon I saw a real nice 3.5 year old 10 point with some extra kickers. Since those 2 hunts it's warmed up & the action slowed down. Saw a 140 class 9 point in a cut bean field yesterday but never inside 80 yards.

Took today off since it rained all day. Tomorrow the weather turns for the better. Looking forward to something besides a S to SE wind again. May be windy but at least it will cool off again. Calling for a chance of snow Friday night & Saturday morning.

OK team...got some more points for ya...I killed a 9 point yesterday morning...not the big one I was after but he'll do for now. I'll post him up (pics, etc.) in the deer entry thread when I get back to MS. Leaving MO Sunday morning. My buddy (Ernie) is still hunting so I'm hanging around to help him drag...hopefully.

BTW...another great hunt that morning. Lots of bucks cruising, chasing, etc. The 9th buck I saw I shot at 10:15 with our neighbor's rifle I borrowed. He was cruising through at about the 50 yard line. Yep...I put the bow down. With all the action, it didn't seem like I was in the stand that long either. I saw a buck do something I'd never seen before. The mature 8 point (well was) I passed several days ago (a tine was broken off at the base) pushed a doe by me. A 6 point had been standing near a bedded doe 50 yards in front of me for about 20 minutes. The mature buck charged the 6 point & ran him off. That caused the bedded doe to get up and ease off to the other side. The mature buck went to the spot the doe was bedded...worked it over with his tongue...brush she'd bedded on...everything. Then he made a scrape where she'd bedded. When he finished he eased off trailing her. The doe he pushed in was standing 20 yards from him. She eased forward & watched him leave, then stared at him till he was gone. Guess she wasn't as pretty! JK...probably the other doe was closer to coming into estrus. Interesting sighting.

Submitted my pic and tag in the contest entry thread. Here he is...9th buck I saw Friday morning. Lot's of rutting action that day before the rain & snow moved in later that afternoon & evening.

We had a great opening day today bucks are pushing does hard. I saw bucks fighting pushing doe and everything else. Alot of deer. Passed on multiple bucks throughout the day. 2 that for this area are shooters for most. But I know what is lurking around every tree. Its about dark im sitting there the three bucks and a couple doe I was watching wonder off. Then it happens a doe runs up the hill into the field. Automatically im like buck is pushing her. I get ready there he is one of the bucks I know are there. Atleast 20 inch spread goos mass for the area looks to be 8 to 10 pt but at that point who is counting I see spread mass and aged body. He is standing towards me no shot looking for the doe. Takes 10 steps back broadside. Im thinking here we go baby. I ready take a shot and nothing stands there like nothing happend. Still looking for his Mrs. So I ready and shoot another he is about 150 to 175 for both shots. Nothing. Looks around and puts his tail up. Sees his mate and takes off after her. I checked very well but no blood. Im sick. What a day. Im pumped to get out tomorrow after another or maybe love will let me seehim again. Im going to have nightmares tonight lol

Thanks Kevin. Went to the MS camp Friday & Saturday. Too hot to hunt...mid to upper 70's for highs & real windy. The guys that hunted didn't see any action at all. I scouted & moved my 5 cams around to scrapes. Scraping activity is just starting to get good in MS...I know...strange to imagine that. Peak rutting action is usually during the 2nd half of December...best between Christmas & New Years. Got 2 nice mature bucks on cams I checked out of the 4 I had out. One a 135 class 8 point...the other looks like a 140 class 9 point. With the cams now set on scrapes i hope to catch more mature bucks on the cams. Also found some big rubs...thigh size or bigger in areas I didn't have cams...do now!

Well guys it's just not my year !! First year in awhile that I didn't get some meat by now :( sat I was out all day again and I had a spike come in and was wishing it was a doe .. then bout 315 I hear deer and all I can see is forms of deer and can't see for sure if any have horns .. don't think they did . I seen this group of deer 3 times now differant days I was out and they all doe and there is 11 of them running together anyway if it's the same group . We have a point restriction here in pa and I wasn't about to pay a fine for shooting a spike .. had one opening that they all going thru bout 100 yards away and they just didn't stop in my lane and I couldn't tell leading up to the lane if it was a doe or not until it was there and gone .. oh well that's y they call it hunting and not killing. . Planning on going out sat morn one more time then late season yet . My wife's about tired of it :)

Hang in there BB...it can happen any time.

I killed an real old 9 point this weekend in MS. Probably the oldest deer I've ever killed. Had him on cams last year figuring he was 6.5 years old and a 140's class 10 point, including 1 NT point...also exceptionally long brow tines. This year he went WAY downhill and his body wasn't as heavy either (comparing pics to last year). Got trail cam pics of him last week and couldn't believe he had gone downhill so much...his rack looked ~30" smaller than last year. We named him Capt. Hook last year...blind in his right eye and right ear torn up to have the shape of a clover leaf. Those distinguishable marks left no doubt it was him.

Anyway...he approached me from the right side of my stand and bedded down ~75 yards from me Sunday morning at 9:15. That gave me too much time to think about it...DRT shot. After pulling the jawbone, well both of them, I discovered not only were his teeth worn out, at some point during his life he had broken his lower right jawbone and lost 2 teeth too. His broken jawbone had healed up crooked. He sure had a tough life battling his way through the pecking order to reach old man age in deer years. I'll post pics later when I get them loaded. Not an upgrade for me...matched the 1st buck.

Sorry for the delay in posting pics...been trying to get my Christmas shopping finished between hunting & household chores.

Here's a trail cam pic of him last year...figured from multiple pics he was 6.5 years old last year. Left ear torn up & blind in his right eye.

No doubt...same buck in 2015...went way downhill in his old age.

I believe he's the oldest buck I've ever killed.
