Here's comes the fall! Low of 32 this Saturday! This will get some mature deer on their feet' date=' I'd be in the woods if this front is hitting you.[/quote']

Supposed to break down into the upper 30's Saturday night/Sunday morning. Probably won't get to go Saturday at all due to our 14 year olds band schedule, but I will be out Sunday for sure, and probably Friday too. Just need to put myself in the right place at the right time and need some better deer to find their way to our place, yet to even get a shooter buck on cams since season started.

Sat a good new stand with perfect conditions and acorns dropping for the first time Sunday morning for 4 hours and saw nothing but a group of turkeys.

I've been out a couple times over the long weekend (Thanksgiving here in Canada this past weekend). Been warm though, in the 70s all weekend. Seeing some deer but all does. Saw one little buck last weekend, but I am holding out for a big fella until at least rifle season in early November. Both Sunday and yesterday evening I saw 3 does and 3 fawns. Pretty sure it's the same group. They've been hanging out all summer together. Cool to see them in the stand up close and personal though. Also last night a half a dozen or so turkeys snuck up behind me and scared the daylights out of me. It was windy and didn't hear them walking. I guess they saw me move and they were about 15 yards behind my stand and started clucking and carrying on LOL.

Today I have a day off, but unfortunately it's raining and it doesn't look like it's going to let up by the end of the day. Temps have dropped back into the 50s, Saturday's low is 27 degrees with possible snow overnight. That's more like it!

Went out for a couple hours this evening, first sit in a while that I haven't saw a single deer. The wind was blowing about 15mph out of the NW with the temperature right at 32 degrees so it was a tad chilly 17 feet in the air lol. As I was getting out of the tree a wolf let out a full blown howl which sounded to be less than a mile away. That sure woke me up lol.

Bet that made the hair on the back of your neck stand up a bit Shaun. Have had yotes so close after dark I could smell them and had them cut loose with only a bow in hand, can be kind of unnerving.

Was a fun morning this morning here, and I may have second thoughts on does here this season. I know I have been hearing harvesters running and deer are being pushed out of ag crops, so more deer and more does coming around, I still think numbers are down though. Had a medium sized doe and a yearling come in early on this morning in range and in the open where I had a shot. I first thought the smaller one was a fawn, but turned out to be a last years fawn. The bigger doe got in my opening but I did not get the bow up and so I was just watching. She followed the trail that passes by at 16 yards and kept coming in straight at me and got about 10 yards away and looked around and up, squirrel was cutting acorns out of that sawtooth above me and was nuts dropping from the tree I was in. Sun was shining on me a little, she knew something was not quite right and turned and casually walked off. I did have maybe one opportunity before she got so close to get in position, but did not take advantage of it and then after that it was a matter of one always with its head up while the other with its head down. Little one walked up and locked on me and also knew something was not right, think she saw me blink even though I was looking away and they trotted a little ways before walking off on back to my east. Wind was in my face out of the north east. They never blew and did not take off hard. Little later a group of 3 came around and stayed near where I last saw those 2, they were never in range and milled around a while before walking off. About 9:30 had movement behind me, not far enough around to catch my wind. Turned and peaked around the large oak and was 6 antlerless(NO fawns!) coming in, one got as close as probably 15 feet from the base of the tree, could not see where the others got to but knew I was in trouble because I could hear them behind me coming around. No way any scent control is gonna keep me from getting busted with them that close and right behind me where the light breeze had picked up and was blowing directly to them. One took off, never blew and did not stomp, just took off at a good pace, then another also took off and of course then they all did.

Gonna have to turn that ladder stand or move it back a little to a different oak, great spot, but deer keyed on it for some reason, may have been in part the squirrels first drawing attention and then them maybe seeing a little shine/glare of the sun on my eyes. There is another large oak about 15 yards further back that would offer a shot on the trail they took behind me but would leave a further shot.

Late last week hung my climber over a scrapeline that is starting to see some smaller bucks moving through(also where the yotes have been most active), should be a perfect wind for it tomorrow.

Yeah it did! It was a bit eerie, didn't let it bother me though. I see coyotes around here frequently, but there are wolves in the area too but they don't show themselves as much as coyotes do. This one definitely sounded like a wolf, the coyotes sound more high pitched and they yip and yap more than that typical long drawn out howl like the wolves do. Was hoping to get out with the rifle in the field today and do some predator calls to see if I could call something in but never got to it. Rain and ice pellets moved in at around 3pm and the wind picked up so I didn't even make it to the stand tonight.

Haven't been out yet this weekend, was raining yesterday evening, busy today all day. Monday's are my Sunday since I work Tuesday to Saturday so maybe tomorrow evening I will get out if the weather is nice. So much to do and no time to do it lol. We are losing daylight fast here, now when I leave for work it's dark and it's dark when I get home so I can't get anything done outside during the week anymore. Have to cram everything and family time into my weekends that go by like a blur lol.

Congrats on the banded bird! I don't waterfowl hunt too much, have never got a banded duck or goose.

I'm going to sit in the stand tonight, see what happens. Beautiful day here, the week of high winds is finally over by the looks of it. It was 22 degrees with a heavy frost this morning. Saw 7 deer out the window in the field as I was feeding my daughter just as the sun was rising. All bald ones. Actually had a dream last night that big buck in my avatar came out in the field, grabbed the .300 WSM out of the case and it didn't have a scope on it with no sights either, by the time I got the other rifle I couldn't find shells. Ran out and it was gone, I woke up in a panic! Funny how the brain works in your sleep:rolleyes:

Congrats on the doe ny gun.

Congrats on the banded bird Pat. Don't do any waterfowling although we have an abundance of opportunity on them here.

Good luck on that big 8 Shaun. Funny how those dreams go, but does sound about how my real life luck seems to go.

Didn't make it out over the weekend here at all, poor weather conditions and less than ideal wind for most stands, did pull cards from two cams and less than excited with what is around. Will be better opportunities, and hopefully some better bucks moving around soon. Looking forward to the muzzleloader opener at this point, have the youth hunt this coming weekend and then the following weekend is the muzzleloader opener. I may make it out a few more times yet during archery, but realistically rate my chances of tagging a deer pretty low.

Nice job NY! I'm out helping the neighbor trail one this morning. Not sure which deer he hit, but he should be a good one. We followed blood for about 400 yards last night and backed out after the second bed. Terrible blood trail, one of the toughest I've been on. I'm thinking maybe clipped one lobe of liver and stomach with a very low plugged exit wound. The positive is I think I know where he's trying to go so I'm hopeful this morning.

Didn't get to make it yesterday afternoon but did get a few hours this morning. Had my first encounter with a probable shooter this morning, never got closer than 50 yards and just was not confident in any of the openings with the crossbow at that distance. Real nice 6 with no brows that i could tell 20+inch main beams better than 18 inch inside spread. Got me wound up pretty good. Going to a scrapeline this afternoon, first hard freeze forecast for tonight should have them moving. I would have taken that 6 with archery, dunno about ml'er maybe not need a little better look.

Yesterday afternoon turned into a mess. Neighbors cows were in my food plots. Spent the rest the afternoon rounding them up and helping him get them put up. Don't think all the commotion probably helped with easing the deer, i know at least one was bedded and blew out of a brush pile on the way to the stand i planned to hunt when his cows charged past it.

Probably try that scrapeline this afternoon if i can catch a freaking break and get a decent wind.

Warm and wet is the forecast for most of this weekend. Youth hunt is this weekend, taking my youngest daughter this morning. Have pretty low expectations with not seeing a single deer yesterday. Afraid all the commotion of the neighbor and i chasing his cows all over my back 15 acres on 4 wheelers Thursday evening during prime time may have put the deer on edge a bit.

Walking back last night heard a few deer blow just off the back of our line. Waited til dark and watched me maybe???

Congrats on the button Ruth.

First morning of youth hunt had a small single doe come across a little out of comfortable range and then about 45 minutes later a 1.5 year old 5 pt came through well in range and walked past us about 45 yards but 9 year old Allison said "he is just a baby daddy". After we got back she second guessed her decision and said maybe she should have shot him. She will get more opportunities.

Hoping this morning something a little bigger does the same thing for her.

We are back to archery for 5 days tomorrow then ml'er opens the 7th.

Congrats to everyone on their deer so far! Tomorrow is our rifle opener, the clocks went back an hour this morning which puts legal shooting time at 6:15am tomorrow morning. Caught a nasty cold a few days ago but it's starting to ease up. On my way to work yesterday I saw the two smaller bucks that were with that big 8 pointer just down the road from here. So we'll see what happens. Supposed to get really warm here this week, high of 67 on Thursday. 56 tomorrow which is still really warm for us in November. Oh well at least it's not calling for rain tomorrow. Gonna try being in my stand shortly after 6, hopefully "Tyrone" makes an appearance.
