wtnhunt
We saw nothing Sunday. Pulled cards on cams yesterday, activity on cams back there after the cow incident has been extremely poor. Had 130 pics of deer on the scrapeline over the 3 days prior to the commotion with several including a shooter buck during daylight, only about 20 pics of deer over the 4 days after and all in the middle of the night. Hopefully all settles down. Did have pics of the buck I had just out of range on the scrapeline. I have my climber on that scrapeline and would have been a 15 yards shot had I hunted that stand that morning. Determined from pics he has one brow and would be good enough with the ml'er if I see him again.
hoosierhunter
I've been hunting hard down here in IL. I've seen two shooters which meet my 150 minimum. All the guys in camp are seeing deer just not quite able to close the deal.
hoosierhunter
I'm headed back home for a few days and then coming back down on Saturday when it snaps cold.

hoosierhunter
Nice Job!!!!! Can't wait to see them! Slow morning for me. Working on the all day sit.
wtnhunt
Posted in the deer room. Was prepared for an all day sit here, turned out to be pretty short hunt. Time to be in the woods right now.
Shaun_300
I'll have to check your story out after I post this William! Well unfortunately I got pretty sick just before we were scheduled to leave for the hunt camp last Friday. I stayed at home this year. Felt better by yesterday so I hunted last night and this morning. Saw a deer this morning running about 75 yards from my stand, not sure what it was. Was hoping it was a doe with a buck hot on her heels but nothing else came behind her. Heading out shortly for my evening sit. We'll see what happens! The weather finally cooled off. It was around 20 degrees this morning, warmed up into the mid 40s now so the deer should be starting to move.
Shaun_300
No luck last night, didn't even see one! I have instruction from my father in law to shoot a doe if I see one, he has a doe tag and it is legal to party hunt so I can fill his tag. Legal shooting time is in 2 minutes so I better get my butt out there! I'm lucky that my stand is less than a 10 minute walk from the house lol. wtnhunt
Good luck Shaun. Like those walking distance stands. This morning sent Catrina to the stand i killed my buck from. Good chance she will see something decent, almost as perfect as conditions can get with the wind for that stand. She is on a mission to kill something for the wall. Should be a good nine around, hope she gets a shot at him.
hoosierhunter
Strike 3 for Illinois. I did have my opportunity and didn't let the arrow fly yesterday morning on a 160 10. I passed at 42 because the shot felt rushed and I thought he would continue to come in, but he turned behind some brush and walked dead away. He had no clue I was there, just one of those unlucky deals.
Shaun_300
Didn't see a single deer yesterday, sat from 6:45 to 9:30 yesterday morning and 2pm til dark last night. 20 minutes after I got to the stand yesterday I stand up to get something from my pocket and look over and here comes a coyote trotting down the trail. Don't know how he didn't see the hunter orange, then he stopped behind a cluster of trees so I quickly grabbed the rifle and got it to my shoulder. He took about 3 more steps and I fed him a 140gr power point from the 7mm-08 right above the front shoulder. He hit the ground like a ton of bricks and didn't even flinch. That was pretty exciting, didn't expect to see one lol. Heading out here in a few minutes. Gonna sit til 9 or so then I have to take my daughter to an appointment to get her first needle. Rain is supposed to move in tonight until Friday which sucks! Going to sit a bit longer this afternoon and make the best of it. Rifle season closes on Sunday here. wtnhunt
Good luck Shaun. Have a week and a half before our rifle season opens here, still in our muzzleloader season. I can still take another buck but not too likely i will.
Shaun_300
Went out yesterday evening, hit the grunt call a couple times in the last hour, not 30 seconds later I can hear a deer walking behind me. I got pretty excited and was looking over my shoulder with the rifle half up. Could see movement though the prickly ash bushes, it took a few more steps and I saw the short nose on it, then another fawn appeared behind it. All summer I have been seeing the same 5 deer. One doe had one fawn and the other had 2 fawns. They all stuck together and saw them while bow hunting too. So I'm not sure if their momma got killed or if she was back further. They hung around for 20 minutes or so and I was hitting the grunt call, they were looking around for another deer and sniffing with their heads up sniffing. It was entertaining. It's a crappy day today, supposed to rain all day, all night and most of tomorrow. Hopefully this weekend I will have some luck.

Shaun_300
Yeah true William, never thought of that. Headed out for about an hour and a half this morning, wind switched around out of the west now and it's still raining and around 45 degrees. Never saw a thing except for a grouse that scared the living bajeebees out of me walking in. Took off from the side of the trail I was on as I walked up beside it and never saw it lol. Cold front is moving in this afternoon with the rain changing to snow this evening before it stops. It would be so nice to have some snow on the ground for tomorrow morning's hunt but I won't hold my breath. Weather looks nice for the last 2 days of rifle season. wtnhunt
Have not been out to deer hunt since the muzzleloader opener. Wife has been going and not seeing much. I will pull cards again early this next week, hopefully things pick up.
wtnhunt
Late to the stand this morning with the muzzle loader but popped another yote a little over an hour into the stand. Ongoing thread in varmint room with pic. Sat another 45 minutes and no deer. Gonna have to go back and move the stinky yote from that scrapeline. Shaun_300
Well rifle season was a bust for me, the deer just don't seem to be moving at all. Saw lots in bow season and up until last weekend. Not sure if the warm weather last week screwed them up or what the deal is. Oh well, have until the end of December to stick one with the bow. hoosierhunter
Our fun opened this weekend too. Not much happening for us, but plenty of shooting around us.
wtnhunt
I told the wife to go Friday morning, she did not get up, and went out late, her mistake. The 9 pt had had his pic made on Friday the 13th at 4:57 am. So he was in the area. Have our rifle opener this coming Saturday here, got a buck I think is playing games with me. lol Left me a freaking "calling card" of sorts that I noticed when I went to relocate that yote Sunday. I cannot quite see that scrape and rub from my stand up the hill, BUT my climber for archery is about 10 yards back from that and that is in direct line of sight of the box blind the wife is sitting in right now. My trail camera on that scrape line is facing the other direction and that buck seems to know it. Have a scrape dripper on the next tree up just about 10 feet away. Added some more active scrape to that dripper while I was back there. Yotes were not quite so vocal last night, heard a few.
hoosierhunter
William I've heard of guys purposely hitting yotes bad enough for them to go back to the den and die in it. I've also heard dens can be smoke bombed with a few boys carrying scatter guns waiting....
wtnhunt
WilliamI've heard of guys purposely hitting yotes bad enough for them to go back to the den and die in it. I've also heard dens can be smoke bombed with a few boys carrying scatter guns waiting.... Neighbor boy told me that his buddy in Illinois accidentally gut shot one and it was immobile and then he had several more come in to the one yiping and carrying on of the wounded yote. So he now intentionally hits the first one back and sits and waits for more to come in.
hoosierhunter
Pretty slow going on our area. It's typical when gun season kicks off.
wtnhunt
Pretty slow going on our area. It's typical when gun season kicks off. Gave up the best time of the year so the wife could knock down a good one. Has gotten pretty slow on our property as well, scrapeline that usually has great activity is DEAD since our search for sign the deer the wife shot/at. No lack of shooting around us. Watched 4 relaxed does yesterday morning early on, no bucks. Pretty sure the neighbor whacked one of those 4 yesterday morning as I watched them walk right to where I heard him shoot. Saw the same group, I think this morning, but 3 cautious does. Maybe that some bucks are locked down on does right now here. Strange season for me, not seeing near the numbers of deer I am used to seeing.
wtnhunt
Hope everyone's season is going well. My chances of upgrading are very slim, will not shoot another unless it is a wallhanger and i have no evidence to conclude one exists. Is Ruth still with us? lol. Heard you got a couple deer. Congrats. Don't forget to post some pics here. Good luck with the bow Shaun.
