bowhunter97
Any ideas on what the buck I shot in Ohio may have weighed? I'm guessing 230-250 but who knows we didn't weigh him so I'm trying to guess what he weighed

elkoholic
I'd guess about 220 live and 180 dressed. When in doubt of the weight of your trophy there is method that has proven to be quite reliable in predicting live, dressed and yield weight. There is a ratio of heart girth to live weight, but to simplify it, here is one of the available charts so you don't have to do any math. Instructions: Measure around deer chest behind front leg elbow. Read weight from chart below. Accurately Calculate Deer Weight by the Heart Girth Measurement Method. By using a tape measure you can determine the weight of your deer. The girth of the deer is measured in inches, just behind the forelegs. The heart girth measure measurement is converted to pounds in the chart below. If you do not have a tape measure, use a string. Draw the string tightly around the deer's chest, then measure the string with a ruler. Heart Girth: Distance around the chest just behind the forelegs, in inches. Live Weight: In pounds; the weight of the animal on-the-hoof-before bleeding. Dressed Weight: In pounds; the weight of the carcass with all entrails removed. Edible Lean Meat: Boneless edible venison. This chart was produced with data collected by the Pennsylvania State University-Department of Science, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission-Division of Research. dbHunterNY
no idea 230-250 lbs dressed would be a BIG deer. I'm guessing around 210 or so lbs dressed. I'm horrible at guessing. that's why I weigh them all.
