Shaun_300
Finally added one to my collection. Been wanting to get one for a while, my last trip out with my Remington 597 I nearly wrapped it around a tree. Could never get that thing not to jam through a full magazine. So I took it to a local gun store the other day and traded it for a bolt action Marlin XT-17. Put about 50 rounds through it when I brought it home. I just have a cheap 3-9x32 Bushnell rimfire scope on it that I had on the 597. Think I will upgrade it. So far I'm very impressed with the accuracy and trajectory. It's nice being able to shoot 100 yards without even thinking about hold over. Haven't tried it past that yet. The only thing is ammo prices, a tad more expensive than the .22LR. Box of 200 CCI was $97!
Ravin R10 man
Kinda been wanting one of those for awhile for a pidgeon plinker....New Rugar 10/22 with Nikon pro scope does really well, got a .22 hornet I want to upgrade scope on too, and TONS of reloads that Dad had run off for it before he passed away....prob not be needing a .17, can put the $ into a better scope Edited April 3, 2016 by Mathews XT Man
Shaun_300
I will eventually get a 10/22 as well. Probably once my daughter is old enough to plink with me. I was caught up between the .17 I got and the 10/22 with the black laminate stock. Ended up deciding on the .17 for the extra umph. Was out again yesterday with it to thin some tree rats out, does a great job! Then I filled a juice container with water and set it on a stump 175 yards on the other side of the field. The winds were blowing pretty good and I was only holding on the side of a tree for a rest so I never did end up hitting it. Will try on a calmer day. That scope isn't the greatest past 100 yards either... The parallax is probably set to 50 yards being a rimfire scope. I'd like to get something in the 6-18x40 for it eventually with a BBC reticle. wtnhunt
Good luck getting it shooting on out there Shaun. Wouldn't mind having another rimfire here, but then the .223 is reloadable and can reach on out there. Those varmageddon pills been pretty versatile for vermin and are probably safer to shoot the beaver. Loft screen been out here pretty well since we moved in. Need to do some work on them here again. Watched a crow harassing an eagle yesterday morning while clearing beaver dams. Adjam5
Good luck with the rifle Shaun. That caliber is known to be a tack driver. Also start shopping for ammo Better to have too many rounds than not enough.
dbHunterNY
always thought about getting one for woodchucks. Good luck with it.
ODH
Love my savage. I've hit chucks at 150 steps with it
Shaun_300
Last thing I killed with it was a raccoon, distance: 6 inches. LOL! Caught it in my live trap, little beggar kept emptying my bird feeder almost every night. Fixed that problem real quick! The neighbor has some chucks around his yard and under his porch, might venture over there this weekend and see if I can knock a few down for him. The hay is too high in our fields to see them here now.
