Single Pin Sights

Anyone else put one on their bow? I decided to put one on my Halon for hunting, HHA 5519. am really liking it so far, just working on getting the yardage tape set. Those who have one, how did you set up your sight? Wondering how close to the bottom of the slider I should go for my 20 yard mark? I can adjust the sight pin housing bracket down or up which will change where the 20 marking comes on the slider.

For an HHA, there is a 20-40 and 20-60 method and I'm doing the 20-40 because I really don't shoot much past that...maybe 50 for fun.

I do the 20 to 40 also, I've never shot a deer over 30 yards with my bow. Usually pretty tight quarters here with hardwood/ Balsams mixed in. With carbon arrows, I got my slider locked down on 30 yards. Anything closer, I just adjust my aimpoint when I shoot.

you can use those too methods 20-40 or 2-60. this gets you close. consider that the less accurate your 20 yard sight-in settings are and the closest your further calibration distance is, the less chance you'll have the accurately matched tape. what I usually do instead is sight-in at 20 yards very well. I take a while to and shoot a lot of hole on the same target and/or piece of cardboard as a backer. I then go back to 80 yards (full marked length of tapes available) and sight-in there. i'll use a blank tape they give you or masking tape, marking the two sight-in positions. you then carefully remove it and compare your length with that of the other tapes they provide. even if you don't shoot at 60 yards, using 60 versus 40 yards if you can for setup will be more accurate in the end.

for 3D what I found is most useful is actually the pin guard adjustment to change pin brightness. I always move it so I'm dim enough to prevent the halo glare effect of an overly bright pin, even with mine that uses a .010" fiber.

I am really liking the 1 pin on my hunting bow. 2 arrows touching at 40 yards yesterday. The Halon is a smooth shooter as well. My other bows never had the arrows touching at 40 but I'd be happy with them within a paperplate. Most of the time they are 20 or less.

I used to use a 1 pin sight Ruth...loved it too. Can't recall the name of it but it was probably one of the 1st ones that came out. Problem I ran into was aging eyes. Got to the point I couldn't set it accurately for yardage without using my reading glasses. The lower the light, the worse it was. Had to go back to multiple pins.

LOL XT. I dunno about deadlier...maybe more accurate...or do the two go hand in hand :-p It has an adjustable rheostat cover think that can expose or cover the fibers for increasing or decreasing brightness which is nice.

I'm really surprised your use single pin sights. I use a 5 pin lighted bow sight and I think its the most accurate thing on the face of this planet. I added that thing and have been shooting blazers ever since.
