layin on the smackdown
Hey folks, its been a good while, coupla years since I logged in, but life's been abundantly fluctuating...I think, I hope, I pray things are going to maintain some consistency here for the average, so id like to say hello to all the ones ive missed and hello to the the new ones I have yet to meet. Its been a whirlwind since I last visited, but things are good at the smackdown homestead!
wtnhunt
Welcome back. Forums been very slow you have not missed a lot. Killed a decent 3.5 year old buck opening morning of ml'er then pretty well quit my deer hunting to take others or let my wife go. Focus did shift somewhat last fall to whacking yotes and then to the population explosion of beaver. Killed over 40 of them between trapping and hunting. Wife shot her best buck to date last fall with the ml'er, real nice 9 but we never found any sign she hit it. Neighboring property owner found the deer rabbit hunting late in the winter not too terribly far off our property line. Wife took her second best buck to date with her 243 in the rifle season. Youngest daughter(10 years old) killed her first deer, making for all 3 of my daughter's now having taken at least one deer. Leaves my 5 year old son my only kid that hasn't taken one yet, he is nowhere near ready yet though.

layin on the smackdown
Great to hear! I killed nice a yote, shot him in the head while I was bow hunting the rut back in 2014. I knew I had to kill it, but I was afraid of making a bunch of noise so I head shot him at 20 yds and literally dropped him in his tracks. That was at 3pm...I thought I was done for sure, 20 minutes later I killed a nice 3.5 yr old 140 inch 10ptr within feet of the dead yote. that's been the most exciting thing for me in the woods for a few years other than, like you said, getting others out there. Turkey hunting has been hit and miss. Great to hear from y'all!
ODH
Good job! I had best season to date last year. My best friend and I have never shot a deer while hunting together. Always kill something every year bit never while hunting together. Well last fall he shot a nice buck back on our property during rut. Then I shot my best buck to date with muzzleloader opening morning with him there. Later in the week he shot his doe and then a few hours later I shot my doe not 50 yards from where I'd shot my buck. Same window in deer blind with same gun. We were very happy to say the least!
Shaun_300
Welcome back man! No luck for me last year in deer season other than a coyote I shot while rifle hunting lol. Passed on quite a few deer during bow season waiting on the big fella I saw all year (in my avatar pic!). Never made an appearance in all the hours I spent in the treestand in both bow and rifle season. Oh well maybe this year. There's a buck on the trail cam with some big beams starting, still too early to tell if it's the same one as last year.

wtnhunt
10 year old's first deer, had her on this same buck during the youth hunt and she elected to pass on the shot inside 30 yards, said "daddy he is just a baby". She was sick over not getting another chance on a better buck and catching some crap from kids(boys) at school. Wife took her on a nice afternoon during the early regular rifle season and well guess he will do, lol. First time the wife had someone with her shoot a deer. Wife later killed this one in December, was the 3rd or 4th buck she saw that afternoon. One the wife hit with the ml'er that we found no sign, later had flooding rains move in that evening while we were still looking. She shot the afternoon of 11/16 and we had no more pics of the deer after that.
fly
Welcome back smack - forums are slow but I find myself checking in every week or so. I've had some good luck in the deer woods the past couple years harvesting a 153 inch 12 point and a couple 8 points around the 125 mark. My son got his first buck at the end of 2013 at 11 years old. I also had a run in with a whitetail I had been after back in 1989-1992. Been dating for a year now.

Turkeygirl
Welcome back! Forums are slow but I still check in! 2012 was my best hunting season - killed my best archery and shotgun bucks. This year ended my turkey drought and got a nice 15 lb jake with shotgun. Hopefully we see some action pick up here by hunting season.
