Rhino
Same here William but unfortunately, that's the norm for this part of the country till September or so. I'll get a break from it soon though when I get to South Africa. Their winter right now.
colorado bob
What are you hunting over there Al? I hunted the Limpopo about 12 years ago. Are you going to tour Kruger?
Rhino
Visited my son & daughter-in-law in Memphis, TN this past weekend. Played golf Saturday teeing off at 7:30 a.m. By 9:00 is was real HOT. Played OK until the last 4 or 5 holes when the heat had worn me out. When we finished at ~11:30 my son checked & the heat index was 111. No wonder I was completely worn out. Sure was glad we teed off early!
Rhino
What are you hunting over there Al? I hunted the Limpopo about 12 years ago. Are you going to tour Kruger? Bowhunting at Pragtig's main lodge Bob. They call it their showcase lodge with all the comforts of home. They also have a more traditional African camp but we opted for comfort. All I know is it's about an hour drive NE of Alldays and can't be too far from the Zimbabwe border. The only way I'd consider going to Kruger is if I had already bagged a Sable and an Nyala (my main 2 hit list animals). Going to Kruger would probably require an overnight stay there from where we'll be at Pragtig. Other than those animals, zebra, impala, & maybe a black wildebeest are also on my hit list. On my last bowhunting trip to Africa in 2011 I put a Kudu, Gemsbok, & Waterbuck on the wall so I'll pass them this time & opt for just video & still shots on them. My son & his wife will meet us there on the 9th. His hit list includes a Kudu, Nyala, Gemsbok, Zebra, & Impala. My best friend is also going & his main 2 target animals are Kudu & Sable. He put a Gemsbok and a Black Wildebeest on the wall back in 2011 but never had a good Kudu in range. I don't have a clue what's on Gene Wensel's hit list. I know Sable isn't. He said they're too expensive for his budget. The only African animal I know he hasn't bagged yet is a Sable. His brother Barry bagged one a long time ago. On that particular trip, Gene was the only bowhunter that didn't bag a Sable. This will be Gene's 15th trip over there. He said this is probably his last too since he's 71 now. Barry's recovering from double bypass surgery so he's on the sidelines till this fall. Gene's buddy Mike Mitten is also going but Mike opted to hunt out of Pragtig's traditional camp so I doubt we get to spend time with Mike. If you've seen Gene's 1st Primal Dreams DVD, Mike is the guy waiking with 2 mature Illinois bucks over his shoulder. Needless to say...strong, tough guy! Gene will be going back & forth between both camps since we are split up between the two. I understand the 2 camps aren't too far apart. Don't know what's on Mike's hit list either. fly
Sounds like a great time Al. I've never considered hunting Africa, from what I hear the animal variety often means the taxidermy bill can be more than the trip!
Shaun_300
It's going to be a scorcher here tomorrow, high of 93 with a heat index of 108.

wtnhunt
It's a beautiful 66 degrees here right now and sunny' date=' perfect day! [/quote'] Needing to do some shooting, just been too warm. Unfortunately won't be seeing anything like that here in the near future. Think our lows are forecast in the low 70's for the next 10 days with highs in the upper 90's actual temp.
Shaun_300
I'm just glad we finally had some rain, the lawn is actually green again. It was a sorry sight a couple weeks ago. Went almost 4 weeks without cutting it. And even when I did actually cut it there wasn't much to cut except some patches that actually grew. Felt sorry for our cows, they always go crazy when I run the lawn tractor because they know I go and dump the grass clippings for them. I usually have 2-3 sweeper loads for them to eat, didn't even bother running the sweeper behind afterwards since there was barely anything laying on the lawn to pick up lol. Ravin R10 man
well with the high humidity & heat, we got a storm early Thurs. 4 a.m. 75 mph winds, possible tornados, for sure straight line winds. Nearly headed for the basement, was just waiting for the train...took power out for us for 30 hrs. Our farm auction went on as planned at 10 a.m. I am now officially out of the seed producing industry. So today I went and got me a Miller /Bobcat EFI 250 12K watt generator /ac dc welder. Had 4.2 hrs. Traded my Miller Dialarc 250 on dolly wheels like new. Dealer sold it at his cost, minus my trade. got it for 2k under suggested retail. Plus full Warauntee. wind meters around area now say they pegged at 95MPH cemetary in Ashland is flattened ....will post those when I can find pics http://www.apg-wi.com/ashland_daily_...51339f436.html Edited July 24, 2016 by Mathews XT Man
Ravin R10 man
Today I'm going into Cemetary to pluck trees up and off Gravestones, with TimberPro that I run. Gonna have to be on my game for sure! Every move counts
Ravin R10 man
Work is going well, unbelievable damage at site; lift a tree off headstone, and it falls over! Monument guy is going to reset all damaged or toppled ones. These are 120 year old oaks, spruce, white pines. What I cant reach with forwarder, track machines (mini hoes),are picking up and setting at roadside. Just have to be careful with tail swing when I turn. What a mess, ground covered with leaves and sticks.
RangerClay
I will gladly take a break from this heat. Worst drought in my memory. Ponds are all dried up and most wells are empty. Corn has started to tassel and it's only 3 feet tall. It's going to be a bad one here in NY if we don't get some rain soon.

Greymule
It has been tough in North Carolina. We have had three days of 98 degrees and one 96 degrees in the last four days with heat indexes of over 100. We are fortunate to not be in drought conditions yet. wtnhunt
Still sick of the heat, luckily we have had some rain here and there to keep things from burning up too bad.
Shaun_300
Going down to 55 tonight, think I'll sleep with the windows open instead of the AC on for a change. Looks like it will be mid-high 70s for the next few days. I can handle that. But looking forward to September already when it goes down to near the freezing mark at night! Shaun_300
It got a bit cooler than forecasted last night, 48 degrees right now and boy does it feel nice! Sorry southern fellas for teasing ya's. :clown:
Tominator
Can't complain too much here in central Ohio. It's been hot and humid last few weeks, but we've had timely rain; we got about 3/4" yesterday. Lawn is still green, but I don't cut it too much this time of year. Shaun_300
50 degrees again this morning! Hope it stays like this. Yeah Chris between the end of May and the first of July I didn't cut the grass at all, we hardly got a drop of rain. They said it was the second driest summer since the 1930's. We've been getting good amounts of rain since the first of the month. Back to a nice green lawn and cutting it weekly.
