deal or no deal

Frank's thread reminded me of a deal i ran across last summer at tractor supply. I was buying a couple gates to squeeze cows in my wooden chute in the barn and saw this 54 inch 3pt tiller in their cage marked $549. Thought that couldn't be right and asked the guy helping me load the gates and he said no that is right it is a good price.

Got home talked with my wife and checked the specs on that tiller on their site to see if my little Kubota could handle it and saw the online price was $1500. Tiller was too heavy for the little tractor but my big tractor could handle it. So about a week later i passed the store while running some errands around town in the car and sure enough still the same price on the tag. I took a pic with my phone and came home took the truck back ready to buy.

Told the little girl working there which tiller i wanted and showed her the pic on my phone. She looked it up and the price didn't match so we walked out and looked. She saw the tag and said you are right lets get you checked out so you can get it loaded up. I looked closer and the tag said "rear tine tiller" in small print. Someone screwed up on that deal and mistagged it. Could have bit my tongue and not said anything about the error. After i pointed out to her it looked like the wrong tag, the girl working the store said she could sell it to me at that price but her manager would get upset and she would probably get in a lot of trouble. I had to go with my conscience and told her a great deal wasn't worth getting her in trouble or fired over. I told her she might want to remove that incorrect tag before someone else comes along and buys it at the wrong price, she was headed out there as i was leaving.

Surprised me that it went mismarked as long as it did and that noone actually bought it before.

Yea, I thought that TV I bought might have been marked incorrectly as well William. The guy in the TV area plugged it for me to make sure it worked and on the display it said 4K. Then it was taken to customer service. It was scanned and came up a much higher price. The service counter person said clearance items do that and she had to do an over-ride. It didn't feel dishonest - however, buying the tiller at the marked price after the worker realized the error would have.

Oh nothing at all wrong with Wal-Mart clearance bargains Frank, completely on the same page as you there. Bought that Barnett crossbow after the 14 season at half price, then last summer when Wal-Mart clearanced their AR's i just missed out on a dpms 308 that was less than half price. I did pick up a Nikon pro staff 4-12x40 bdc scope marked down from i think it had been 249 to 149 on down to 99 when i bought it.
