im your huckleberry
Right now can not find any large rifle primers. My question is, can i use a large rifle magnum primer, if so what adjustments are required if any?
wtnhunt
Cabelas has large rifle in stock online in a couple different brands. From what i understand some use magnum primers with ball powders in standard rifle loads. Cannot recall any load data for any of the cartridges i load for in my hornady manual calling for a magnum primer.
Ravin R10 man
Seems to me a magnum primer will add 3 to 5 grains to your load
wtnhunt
Unless you find specific load data using magnum primers for the caliber/s you are loading, I would not personally try it, not worth the potential risk.
im your huckleberry
Thanks for the response wtn and XT Man. I reduced by 2gns and used military action load data in my 65x55se and worked it all out from there. 2900 ish real promising accuracy, no pressure signs, just messing with COAL looking for better accuracy, will keep you posted.
im your huckleberry
here is some trials with 215 primers its also is spherical powder have noticed in a few load data books some loads do use the hotter primer. the bottom left is not bad everything takes off from that 48.5 gr load, top right is 49, top left 49.5, bottom right is 48 grs, the middle are fouling. these where 123 gr sst in my Swede. wtnhunt
Nothing wrong with that group, looks like you got it worked out.
im your huckleberry
The other day was back at the range, IMR 4955 under a 129 gr Hornady spire with groups around .75 to .80 moa @ 100 yds . Yes indeed it does do as advertised less copper fouling and cleaner burning. I can't wait to see if it is temperature insensitive. This is in my 6.5x55 se
