huntinsonovagun
Decent at 25 yards, but I did pull it up and left (I aim for mid-neck). Still not quite the pattern I would like, but it would get the job done, I assume... 30 yards....OK I guess. Probably get the job done....This target is a little smaller than I think it should be, so I might have an extra couple pellets in there on a life-size target...... 40 yards.....YUCK!! 40 yards again!.....I could get lucky and actually kill a bird, but don't want to risk it.... I have a Hastings choke tube ON THE WAY!! So hopefully I can find a pattern that I'm confident in. The Tru-Glo is goin back to Wal-Mart today. Any suggestions on a particular load for my Rem. 870 3in.?? Planning on putting some Fed. #6, Winchester #4, and Remington Nitro #5 (which I already have). I also am planning on buying some of the new Flight Control wads made by Federal I believe Anyway....hope to get this headache straightened out!! Less than 3 weeks until opening day! KYLimbHanger
Re: Got pics up of my pattern... Definetly try out the new Federals with the Flight Control wad. Did wonders in my 870.
RyanH
Re: Got pics up of my pattern... Anyone else agree with me? But he has a group of about 17 bb's that would kill a bird at 40yards at the base of his neck! Maybe aim high at forty and see what he gets? PAbowhunter4life
Re: Got pics up of my pattern... When I used my 870 Express Mag for turkey I had good patterning success with the Remington 3" Premier Magnum Turkey #4's. Not the High Velocity, just the standard shells. Believe it or not, it shot a GREAT pattern with just the standard full choke, not an extra full choke, not an aftermarket choke, just the standard Remington full choke. In fact, it shot so well it allowed me to take my first turkey, a hen, at 40 yards one fine fall afternoon. At 25 and 30 yards you could definitely do better, that will still kill a bird, but I wouldn't shoot past 30 with that set up as is.
JimT
Re: Got pics up of my pattern... Your good out to 25 for sure. I would experiment more with it though. Maybe try some different ammo or choke.
Guest ketchum
Re: Got pics up of my pattern... I would start with a different choke, then try different ammo. If you'll post what gun you have I'll bet within an hour you'll know exactly what you need to use. Remember you can always go to Rhino/Nitro combo and eliminate all your problems. Guest kracey
Re: Got pics up of my pattern... I would first try a different ammo combination. Try the Federal Flgiht control 2.0oz #6's.. I noticed you were shooting Nitro #5 up there, Try 6's probably increase you pattern big time. If you shoot the Federals and still the same thing, then I would look for a new choke. I have Winchester 1300 that I shoot Federal Flight Control #6 out of the Factory Choke tube and I get great patterns. Personally, I don't see what all the hype is about all the different choke tubes. After Hearing everyone talking about you need new choke, Before I even shoot the factory choke I was planning on buying a new one. But with the Factory choke and that Shell. I am getting 50 kill hits at 30 yards and 24 kill hits at 40 yards. So I think that is good enough. In short since I kinda mumbled there haha, shoot the Federal Flight control #6's or any #6's and see if that helps you out.
