Been a few years...

Hi all! I hope all is well with you. I just thought I stop in and say hi and fill you in on what's going on in my life these days. My kiddos are growing up, my daughter turned 11 yesterday. She killed her first buck last year. My son will be 16 tomorrow, and well, he continues to add to his wall. I finally met a great woman a little over a year ago. I'm finally happy again.

Three years ago I got involved in a program started in my hometown called Heroes Hunt for Veterans. In a nutshell, it's an organization that takes veterans deer hunting, turkey hunting, and even a little waterfowl hunting. It's 100% non profit, and we pay ALL of the expenses. Pretty much the least we can do for them, signing the dotted line... Last year I was nominated president and all I can say is, what a humbling experience. We have 60 veterans booked for this year some from out of state, and we will try to keep it at that. However, the chairman can't say no. LOL

Anyway, enough about me. How is everyone? I'd imagine things have changed over the last few years around here?

Welcome back Randy. Glad to hear things are going well for you. Good to see you back. Sounds like a great program for the vets.

Forums been pretty slow.

Our oldest will be 21 in March, she was attending the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with intentions of pursuing a career as a game warden but has taken off school and is managing a retail store on the other end of the state, her boyfriend is still in the engineering program there at UT. All 3 of our daughters have killed at least one deer now, youngest daughter(10 years old) killed her first deer last year. Our 15 year old is more the girly girl of our 3 daughters and did not have as much interest in deer hunting last year, but wants to be a veterinarian and is involved with the ag dept at school.

Allison talked herself out of taking this buck during the youth hunt when I took her, but then during our regular season one afternoon when my wife took her decided he was good enough for her first deer. Think my wife talked her into taking him, first time for the wife to have a kid kill a deer so win win.

Our son is 5, he didn't start talking til he was nearly 3. Pediatrician had concerns he might be autistic so we took him to a specialist in memphis, they said he was not autistic. Because he showed delays we had him speech therapy and ot for nearly a year between age 2 and 3, now he is well ahead of his kindergarten class and is bored with school and teachers are concerned. They are having a tough time with him. Hoping to get him in the stand a few times with me this fall.

Gave up the best stands and times to the wife last season with hopes she would take a nice 9 point we had trail cam pics of. She ended up taking a shot on the deer, with the muzzleloader and we found no sign she hit it, flooding rains came in that night and we had to stop looking after about 3 hours. She later took her best to date during the rifle season. After season closed up the neighboring landowner on the property behind us texted me asking me about the one the wife shot we thought she missed, his dad found the skull not too far off our property across a river channel and he told me where I could find it.

Hi Randy and welcome back. Glad to hear life has been treating you well. God has certainly been good to me the last couple years. My two kids are in high school and doing well. My son hunts, daughter doesn't. I've connected on some nice deer including a 153 inch 12 point in 2014. Also reconnected with my first girlfriend from high school a little over a year ago and things are going great. You should enter the deer contest this year to be sure you don't miss the 180 inch I harvest this November.

Ya can't just come here telling me about your buck and not post a picture! Let's see him!

As far as the contest goes, the chances of me killing a deer are pretty low. With the organization I'm in, I run a camp out of my land where two veterans come and stay in an outfitters tent every weekend. I'm responsible for guiding one of them, and then I do all the cooking and everything else that comes with it. So, my days of actual hunting are pretty much over. I've killed enough, time to share the wealth.

Welcome back Randy. You're a busy man! Doing pretty good here. Went back to Africa again this summer. Posted a couple of threads about the hunt with kill pics and one with pics I took while hunting. Check them out when you have time.

It was a GREAT hunt! Ready for deer season to open now. Got almost all of my pre-season prep work finished.

Good to see ya around. Things have been busy around my place as well. I unfortunately didn't stick a deer last year. I missed a good 155 inch deer during the rut. Coyote chased him right in front of my stand. Arrow hit a small limb. And to say the least I was very disappointed in myself at the time. My buddy that I hunt the farm with ended up killing a 130- 140 class during the post rut with his muzzleloader. Very nice deer. Then waterfowl season came in and I put my deer hunting things away for the year. I seem to be more mad at the ducks then I am at the deer anymore.
