Love the team name! Aaron - I have been processing my deer (and those of friends/family) for about 10 years now. After years of using a pulley system or come along, I finally bought and installed an electric hoist for the carport. I'll put some pics up of it in use later when it actually gets used. I've been busy getting things done around the house and at work so I'll have more time to hunt this once the season opens Saturday! Joe, that is a fantastic buck! I hope you connect!

Come along in the garage here. Thought about a cheapy harbour freight electric hoist. Been cutting and packing ours since 2003. Biggest downfall for us is no walk in and usually too warm here to let one hang. Did pick up a new porter cable cordless recip saw to use instead of my old corded craftsman.

Martin - that is the same one I just bought and installed. Cabela's had it for 109.00 and I used a 20 dollar off coupon and after using my points I paid 5 bucks for it. William, Do you use the reciprocating saw once the meat is removed for disposal? I generally use a hatchet to get the skeleton in a trash bag. I used a chain saw once but it was too messy so I stuck with the hatchet. Tomorrow is opening day and we just had a cool front move in. I'll be up at 3am getting ready and then out to the stand an hour before daylight. Here is what I'm after.

Mainly for cutting the shanks. I skin back then cut the meat away from the bone on the legs before cutting off the legs with a bimetal blade then wash off any bone dust before putting in the cooler.

I dispose of carcasses whole usually on our ground in the bottom. Good yote bait.

We had to get a new grinder year before last. Upgraded from the cabelas $99 job we had for about 10 years to a cabelas 1/2 horse commercial. BIG difference.

Catrina saw pics of a nine that is my target buck this year, got her a little more motivated. If she can kill him first i will be happy for her. Asked her if she wanted me to load pics for her to share and she said no that she didn't want to jinx herself. lol

We have had a couple other probably 3.5 year old bucks around that should be good enough.

We tested the black diamond she hunts with yesterday and it is still dead on.

Ok got pics edited..(major accomplishment for this 'ol Farmboy)Here is the winch mounted above the rolling rail; raise carcass up; hang on rolling hooks, remove gambrel, into cooler it goes

The overhang I made to keep winch and us out of weather while skinning pitched roof I put over the old flat top, rubber coated cooler ;16 foot by 8' ;too cheap to buy a new matching ridge cap; got cover sheets for entire project; tin was half price of new. About $500 in upgrades including winchnew_roof.jpg

It is hard to say for sure how old he is. Each area will be different, some have more food sources, some have less. He could be 3.5 year old if you have good ag or he's been hanging out over a couple corn piles. I'd say closer to 3.5, he doesn't have big mass through his antlers. All the bucks I've shot, that's been older, that's one of the sure enough characteristics is mass. Biologist abroad will agree that the main factor is age structure, then genetics.

Shoot him.

You talked me into it. If he shows up he's toast.

The 50 acres I hunt are bordered by a 300 acres of corn and beans. In January and February the deer turn to grazing the grass in the cattle pastures. There are also several acorn trees in the area so the nutrition is about as good as it could be.

Hey everyone! Glad you all like the team name I chose.

Season so far has had it's ups and downs. That buck on my backyard trail camera picture disappeared on opening day. I fear he is in someone's freezer. A few days later I went to visit my dad and hit my bow property. I saw some really great deer and had some close calls. Saw 4 bucks on Sunday and I'm confident that with time something is going to happen.

I did get my first crossbow last week. I posted a picture in the crossbow room.

Good luck everyone!
