Rhino
Hello teammates! Looking forward to sharing deer tales with you. Got home last night from a short trip to Missouri to do a few last minute chores and run the cams for the 1st time this year. After loading & editing pics, I'll share a few of my prospects in MO this season. MO season opens 9/15 so my buddy and I will head to MO later the week to kick off bow season. Mississippi's season opens 10/1 too but most of my hunting time will be spent in MO until around Thanksgiving.
im your huckleberry
With teams now picked, Sept 17 is the opening day. Good luck team mates!
stealthman
Moose hunting with bow right now, then elk, then mule deer at end of October. And of course whitetail in November. It's going to be a good season. Good luck to all my team mates!
Rhino
Here's a few of my best prospects in MO from our 1st trail cam run. I know it would cost the team points but if I see the last buck 1st (9 point below), I'm taking him! Nice typical 10 point Wide 10 with short G2's 11 point including a kicker off right G2 Wide 8 point Great 9 point!
wtnhunt
Looks like that wide 8 and 11 are daddy and son, no doubt the same genetics. That 9 has crazy tine length, those 2's and 3 have to be 12 inches or more.
Rhino
Yep...believe you're right about both William. That 9 would be a "WOW" mount for the wall.
wtnhunt
11 point including a kicker off right G2 Have any history with this one, think he is past his prime? No doubt a mature buck.
Rhino
I think so William. He looks a whole lot like a deer I had on cams a lot for 2 years in a row and then he disappeared last year. I assumed he was killed by one of the neighbors. He has the same exact shape to his rack as the buck I think is him from 2013 & 2014 except he added the short kicker. If it is the same buck, he would be at least 7.5 years old this year. While scouting in early Feb., 2014 the buck was easing through the woods and walked within 15 yards of me hiding behind a tree. I know from that close encounter and trail cam pics from the 2013 season he was at least 4.5 years old then.
Rhino
Heading to MO tomorrow morning for about a week to kick off the 2016 bow season. I'll check in later next week.
hoytshooter09
always have some great deer rhino on your Missouri farm. I'm going to be mainly hunting public land here in missouri. mostly on an archery only area not sure how having crossbows legal this year is going to effect that area. looks like a good year though. Dawg
Well hello team 3! Glad I could join you guys on this years contest. I'll be headed to Colorado come Oct. 23 to chase mulies. Not much happening on my little lease here at home but there are some deer there. Good luck to y'all!
Rhino
As hot as it was (low 90's) not much deer movement so we packed up & came home today. It's supposed to stay hot in MO through the weekend. I'll head back after it cools down next week and give it a go again. Didn't check trail cams on this short trip. I'll run them when I go back next week. Welcome aboard Cory. Glad to have you on our team. Bag a bigun in Colorado. I'm going to be mainly hunting public land here in missouri. mostly on an archery only area not sure how having crossbows legal this year is going to effect that area. looks like a good year though. Hard to say how many new archery crossbow hunters will buy crossbows and then hit the woods to hunt an archery only area. My bet is those hunters will more than likely hunt areas they're familiar with from hunting past gun seasons. Time will tell. Good luck & hope some cool air arrives in MO soon instead of that 90+ degree mess.
Dawg
Finally got a break from the heat this morning......a nice crisp 69 degrees! LOL.....Another 20 degree drop and I'll get excited.
Rhino
Since it's supposed to cool off Monday though next week, I'm heading back to MO Sunday. Our farmer moved in Tuesday to harvest. He'll be finished before this weekend. Should be some good action with deer hitting the cut corn & beans and the cooler temps...fingers crossed! Dawg
Realized I was looking at the wrong dates for Colorado. I thought I was heading out on Oct. 26 but turns out it won't be until Nov. 2nd. Made it out to my lease here at home and man has the timber company knocked down a lot of timber around us. They clear cut our place at the end of the 2014 season and have cleared almost everything around us this year. There's still some big timber on our east side, hopefully it's enough to keep some deer around. I put out a trail cam two weeks ago to see what we have. Gonna let it sit for another week before checking.
Rhino
Saw a lot of deer yesterday afternoon (28). 10 of them were bucks but no shooters. Most were real small young bucks. Pulled some cam cards and moved some cams around since bucks are starting to scrape here now. I'll have to edit the pics on my desktop when I get home. So far, we have a few new shooter bucks on the cams from the cards I've reviewed so far.
Rhino
The deer are moving pretty good since the cooler weather moved in Monday. Got a good look at a real nice shooter 11 point yesterday afternoon. He's over 20" wide and he looks like he'll go over 160. Hung up at ~80 yards for about 10 minutes before easing off. Hope to get him a lot closer this season. Scraping activity is cranking up good here. Fingers crossed the weather stays cool for a while. Dawg
Hope you deflate his lungs Al! I went out and checked the camera yesterday. A few does and a coyote showed up the night the front came through here. This camera is not in a spot where I expect to see any bucks but have another one that I'm going to put out closer to the property line that has the big timber on it, now that the logging activity has ceased. Not much input from our other team members. Hope they haven't forgot about us!
Rhino
Saw a nice 10 point Thursday afternoon but didn't get a shot opportunity. I was hunting a stand in the timber near where I saw the big 11 Wednesday. My son (Bailey) arrived yesterday afternoon. I sent him to the stand I hunted Monday afternoon while I hunted a new stand we set in August not too far away. Bailey saw 2 shooters and shot a nice 11 point I recently got on a cam. Lost blood after 100 yards or so and but looks like pink lung blood. Suspect from the sign he doesn't have an exit hole. After checking trails in the area and not finding anymore blood we eased out to search this morning. Fingers crossed!
