Well...didn't find him. Followed blood ~150 yards spread out thin. After 2 hours of looking, called in Tracker John with his dog. We made 3 passes through the area covering about 1 mile on each pass with Tracker John. Spent about 3 1/2 hours tracking with the dog. Found a lot of beds but never found one with any blood in it. Appears he missed vials and probably hit high. All the blood we found appeared to be coming from the off side but he didn't bleed much at all. We only found a dozen or so specks of blood. I have a trail cam near there so chances are he'll pass by it sooner or later.

No William...this was a new one that showed up on the cams when I checked them last Tuesday. I'll post some pics when I get home from my desktop. I'm hunting through the end of this week now. I've seen 2 shooters, including another bigger 11 point I have on cams now too that I mentioned in my 9/29 post. Seeing 2 shooters on 2 different hunts out of 6 total hunts I've made so far sure makes the odds appear pretty good right now. Bailey had a 2nd shooter big 8 coming in when he winged the 11 point too. For now, I'm just hunting the afternoons. Once cruising starts I'll hunt the morning & afternoon. Won't be long till the October lull period starts so while some mature bucks are moving good, I'll hang in there.

Thanks Cory. Saw the big, wide 11 point again Monday afternoon hunting near a old stock pond inside the edge of a cedar thicket. Same one I saw on 9/29. Although he got inside 35 yards, I never had a clear shot of him. The stock pond appears to be like a magnet for deer to go to it. Saw 8 deer that all went into the stock pond walking around in the water, drinking, etc.. 2 young bucks were even sparring in the water. Great, entertaining hunt! Yesterday afternoon I hunted near the corner of a cut corn field. Deer moved late but I saw 24. Only 2 of them were very small bucks. I'll get back in the timber again this afternoon.

The weather has warmed up again but we have cooler weather moving in again Friday. Also, it rained some last night but it's supposed to be partly cloudy today before rain moves back in tonight & tomorrow before the front moves through.

Seems like the bucks have switched over to their early fall pattern moving into deeper cover now. Still seeing lots of deer but very few bucks except for 1 1/2 year olds. Same for my 2 buddies here too. I saw a shooter 10 point on 10/6 hunting near the SW edge of a 150 ac. cut corn field. He never got inside 75 yards. Since then it's been real slow for daylight buck movement, even on the cams. I could be wrong but it sure looks like we've slipped into the October lull period. I'll make 1 more hunt here in MO this afternoon and then head home tomorrow till late October when early rut activity typically pics up here.

Yes sir I was bummed. Saw several bigger tracks around the corn so I'm hoping I have some buck pics when I check the cam again in a week or so. They are coming to the corn pretty good now but the pics I do have are all at night or during the wee hours of the morning.

I had a popup blind at this same spot and noticed it was gone earlier this year. I asked my dad if he removed it and he hadn't so I was lead to believe it was stolen. As I was walking around yesterday I found it collapsed about 60 yards from where it was originally located. Guess it was blown over during one of the big storms we had back during the spring. It was dry rotted and tore up so now it's time to buy another!

Some updates from the other team members would be nice.

Since a cool front is moving in Thursday, I'm going to hunt the MS club Friday afternoon & Saturday. After that I'll be a road warrior until around Thanksgiving. Heading back to Missouri next Wednesday for about 10 days or so. Then I'll take a few days off to come home and catch up before I head back to Missouri again. Gotta love it!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

We're on the board folks! Bow season opened on October 1st here in Ontario and I've been out about 10 times. Been seeing some deer, nothing with antlers until last night. We had a couple inches of snow late last week plus some rain yesterday morning so the ground was pretty wet. I noted on my walk into the stand that it was pretty much silent walking over the leaves. Got to the stand at around 4:00pm and at 5:30pm I was taken off guard by a buck breaking through some thick brush 20 yards directly in front of me!! I was kicked back pretty comfortable in my chair with my legs crossed and my bow on the floor of my stand at my feet. I thought there was no way I'd be able to reach down and get my bow without it seeing me, and I had very limited time since this thing was on the move. I reached down slowly and got my bow and clipped my release onto my string and he looked up at me. I thought I was busted! We had a 2 minute stare down and something caught his ear behind him. I got to about half draw and he looked back up at me, I had to let off. Then he turned back around and I was able to get to full draw before it looked up again. Looked through my peep sight and the right pin was right where I wanted it, I released. Perfect shot right behind the shoulder. I jumped for joy as I heard it crash in the thick woods behind my stand not 10 seconds after I shot. I got down and found my arrow lodged in a stump full of blood. I was pumped!! I came back to the house and got Kayla and Emma and went to retrieve it. Beautiful 8 point buck, not the biggest in the world but I'll take it! Very happy with it. I had just put the SD card back into my trail cam which sits pointed towards I shot, was hoping to have the shot on cam but I just had a few of the deer in the final seconds. Congratulations Shaun!!!  WTG!!!

I scored too in Missouri.  I'll post pics soon when I figure out how to with the new forum.  Have some family matters to attend to 1st too.

In a nutshell, I had one of the best action hunts in MO I've ever had there.  The afternoon of Nov. 5th was one of those hunts when you count chases & not deer.  I saw 8 chases that afternoon and 2 shooters.  A wide 10 point (155 class) we have on cams was involved in 3 of the chases.  During the 1st pass he got to 30 yards but no clear shot.  The 3rd pass he got to 37 yards but still no clear shot.  The cool thing is he snort wheezed 3 times at the doe he was after.  I guess he was tired of her playing hard to get.  I snort wheezed at him once and had him easing my way until a small buck ran another doe through & he took off chasing her.  While watching and waiting for a 4th pass, I look over my shoulder and across the cut corn field is a shooter 10 point working a lick branch about 125 yards away.  With him on the wrong side of the field, I figured I had nothing to loose so I snort wheezed at him.  He immediately started walking straight toward me...like reeling in a small fish.  There was also a young 8 point that was between us too.  The 8 point passed at 22 yards and entered the brush looking for the buck he'd heard.  The 10 point hits the 16 yard line and catches my arrow before he hits the brush.  He went ~60 yards and crashed.  I could see where he crashed from the stand.  I waited about 15 minutes after he quit thrashing to go check him out.  When I got there I realized he also has a short kicker off his main beam over 1" so he scores as an 11 point.  My 11 point scored 150.  Pics coming soon.

Oh...BTW...I finally got some new trail cam pics of the 11 point my son shot at the beginning of Oct.  He's very much alive and well.  Caught him on a new cam wet working a scrape & lick branch ~1/2 mile from where my son shot at him.  I couldn't see a wound on him at all on the trail cam pics.  I also found the back half of my son's arrow during my recent hunt too...Purely by accident.  Almost stepped on it.

Congrats Shaun and Al! I'll be on the board tomorrow. I've got to get a pic of my tag but here's what I tagged in Colorado. Not muy grande but after 3 days of hunting and not seeing much plus getting shafted by a couple of other bucks this guy didn't stand and chance when I saw him. Not the best pictures but I was working solo with this iPhone and had to modify my Bog pod a little to get it to work.

Well had a great hunt this morning on the public land I was hunting. Got to the parking lot early and there was already a truck there. Wasn't to worried I figured if he was already there then he planned on being pretty far from the road. I planned on sitting about 100 yards from the parking lot where two fingers that run parallel to each other come together, I felt it was a good spot since the two fingers go right up to private ground that is a cow pasture with some thick brush on the other side I was hoping to catch a buck cruising down those fingers. Got set up and took alittle longer than I thought it would. About 8 I was thinking I picked the wrong area when I hear something walking through the brush, look over to see a nice buck walking from the first finger of woods. He was walking fast and I had one small hole and he stopped at 35 yards and I made a perfect heart shot and watched him fall after a 50 yards dash. Couldn't be happier for my first public land deer a beautiful 9 pt.0f0f9a33774d92ecc65197a8fc996345.jpgee426a2b420bb9aaab3b3c8e660c8c7c.jpge2a44068310865511975645cb384d520.jpg
