Good morning guy

I was our sat again .we have our early muzzle loader season for doe only and we can also carry our bow for Buck and doe .well I'm back in about 2 miles and decided to only take bow ..bad choice . Bout 1030 a doe comes in to 25 yards in the thick stuff and turns just before my opening..so no shot with the bow ..if the flinter was with I would have shot in the thick stuff had a few small windows for the gun but not for the bow ..oh well maybe next time

Anybody else out ?

We seen a good amount of deer but nothing close enough to shoot

Went out Sunday morning and didn't see anything. The squirrel hunters were out in full force. It got warm again 84 degrees today. Tomorrow the high is 70 so I'm going to go for an afternoon sit in a stand I haven't been to since opening day. The wind is finally right for it. Good luck everyone.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry I haven't been checking in but we didn't have good cell signal or wifi in Kansas.

I saw a lot of deer on my 6 day hunt, but never saw a buck over 100 inches.  A guy in our group killed a nice 140's buck but between the weather and the fact that we were hunting a farm that was new to the guides, we didn't get on the deer like we did last year.

I've still got a week of vacation left, but plan on taking it once the weather cools down.

I can't describe how blessed I have been bow hunting this year. Tonight I went into a public land spot I've only hunted once before. With my stand and sticks on my back, bow in hand, and hip boots on, I hiked in a little over a mile. To get there I had to go through a creek/river probably 20 yards across and little over knee high deep. I found a few scraps on a field edge next to some corn, so I set up where I could shot the field edge and into the woods. Well not long after I got set up a small 8 point came cruising by in the woods and he went down after a forty yard sprint. Got my arrow, tagged him, and called a buddy to help. Then I packed up the stand and went back to the truck to get the deer cart and by the time I got there my buddy was waiting. This is where it gets good. My buddy didn't have hip boots. So when we got to the creek I went across set our stuff down and went back to pick him up. Literally picked him up and piggy backed him about 20 yards across the creek. It was definitely a fun night. Also I got us a couple more points!

Congrats man! I would say your freezer is filling up fast lol. He's a nice upgrade.....looks like a big old horse body on him.

The ruts been hit or miss around here so far. Unfortunately all of my hunts have been on the miss end. The weather has finally gotten good for me. Going to take off Friday and see if I can get into a little action.

Man BB, that's a stud deer. Pretty rare that those drops haven't been  busted off yet.

Nothing for me over the weekend. I hunted Friday morning and only seen 2 deer. Hunted yesterday for an all day sit and seen 12 in the morning by 9:30, and only 1 in the afternoon. 2 were nice shooters, but nothing close enough. Next weekend is shotgun season, so I'll be in the woods with the boom stick Friday and Saturday looking for an upgrade.

Good luck guys. I won't be deer hunting again until gun season. I planned on going for late muzzle loader so I could have more time, but I might be doing 2nd shotgun season instead to help a buddy get a deer. He doesn't hunt that much and I've been pretty lucky this year so I will probably focus more on getting him one.

Well gun season came and went. I shot another big doe Saturday afternoon, but never seen a buck I wanted to hang a tag on. The weather was about as bad as I had hunted during our first gun season with huge temperature swings and 30 mph winds with 40+ gusts Friday and Saturday. Going to bowhunt for a few hours Thursday morning before the turkey festivities start up.
