Ravin R10 man
Took Kim for a gator ride around the property Sunday, to see the leaves before they are gone. So, I decided to take her to ALL my stand sites, and just make the rounds...to say the least she was amused at all the locations and stands I had up. "All those stands for one guy"? "How many stands do you need"? well of course the only answer I could muster was Larry Potterfield's answer;
TheHawkeyeState
Haha... so true. Coincidentally I just ordered a lone wolf assault II from midway yesterday. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
MUDRUNNER
LOL no doubt. I buy a new hang on almost every year, and tell my wife it's a replacement for an old stand I'm getting rid of. Sometimes I get rid of them ....sometimes I don't. I'm sure it was a nice ride with the leaves dropping and the fresh fall air.
wtnhunt
Can't have too many, granted you have somewhere to hang them. Could use a few more more comfortable stands here.
Rhino
How many stands does 1 man need? There really is no set number but "at least 1 more" is a good start. For me, the number in the back of Larry Potterfield's truck sure isn't enough. It all depends on how much land you're hunting, if you're setting them to leave them in place or carrying them in every time, and who you're sharing your stands with. Some of us (like me, Martin, & William) have family members or close friends that hunt our stands too. I also like to have 1 or 2 in reserve in case I discover a new spot I need to hunt during the season. I don't want to have to pull one to set in what appears to be a new hot spot. I want options to hunt for whatever the wind is for that day's hunt too and I don't want to have to hunt the same stands over & over if the wind stays the same for several days. I also like having around 2/3 of my stands set where they can be hunted with some type of northerly wind since usually the weather is cooler when there's a northerly wind. Hummm...you know, maybe "at least 1 more" isn't enough! I did say something to my closest hunting buddy about the number of stands we had in Missouri this past summer. We needed to evaluate some of our older stand positions and decide which stands needed to be moved & which ones would stay in place. At our age there's just so many we can manage to set up properly (trim lanes, etc.) before the season opens. How many stands am I talking about? Well...at our place in Missouri right now we have 52 stands set and ready to hunt and 5 in reserve in the barn. Some of our stands were pulled and moved this year. A few others were pulled & kept in reserve for now. I replaced a few old stands with new (more comfortable) stands too. So did my buddy. The old stands are now fish structure in the lake. Over time, treestands don't stay in good, safe condition but if you care for them they can last a long time. They aren't safe forever though. I'll replace some more stands over the coming years too. Ravin R10 man
Yup Rhino, two stands Andy & Ashley hunts, got the plot covered, got a travel route, just put one back up on a soon to be combined corm field, then I have a late season stand in the timber, couple ladder stands that I can move fast if needed. Replaced a few in the last couple years. got two Tree Lounges in standby, really wanted to get one up this year so I could take a nap while waiting. Got a couple more spots marked for a stand in the future.
dbHunterNY
we've got it so people (family and friends) were practically putting together a waiting list for certain stands. so now you put up your own. if someone wants to hunt out of one then they ask you first. I've gotten to the point where I just setup spots for a climber stand. keeps some spots a little more secretive for the immediate time frame. otherwise people would be hunting it before I got a chance to. all the scouting and work for someone else. I am thinking about buying another one or two though. I don't have any 2 man ladder stands for when the wife wants to go or eventually my daughter. Ravin R10 man
Yup, I had to ask an old friend and his two kids,to find some public ground a few years back. With a son in law & daughter hunting here, now a grandson in another 5 or 6 years...not enough bucks on my property to support all the pressure. with what the Wolves have done, it's gonna be a long time before we get half way back to what we had. Beef producers got kill tags, and they use 'em on wolves here.
