PA buck down.................

Was off work last week to hunt.

Spent 3 12 hour days Sat, Mon and Tue seeing very little deer activity and no mature bucks.  Hunted til 10:30 Wed morning seeing absolutely nothing................so I went to the gun shops.  Thursday was windy and raining so it turned into a "get stuff done around the house" day.  Friday was back in the stand for an all day sit again.  Saw three bucks through the morning and early afternoon and they were all three in cruise mode.  A definite change from earlier in the week.

At 5:10 a deep grunt came from my right and I could see a large bodied deer coming down off the ridgetop on to the flat I was set up on.  He was 50-60 yards out.  I glassed him and saw he had some antler so I grabbed the grunt tube and gave him one.  He looked and took a couple steps my way.  But stopped and turned to go away,  I hit him with a couple more grunts and he stopped and looked again.  But again walked away.  He was behind a clump of big maples and I gave him a "whadda I got to lose?" series of grunts.  He did a 180 and started in like he was on a string.  He stopped broadside at 20 yards on a woods road and I was already at full draw. But vines and limbs............. I was moving up and down and side to side but just couldn't fins a hole.  He began to walk out the road a few steps where it got even thicker and I feared he was going to walk on out the road and be gone.  But he made a turn and headed off the road nearly straight for the bottom of my tree.  I swung to an opening to my left and when he stepped in, I gave a quiet "mah" and he froze at 9 yards...............with a small tree neatly covering his vitals.  He stood for a few seconds and began to take a step.  As soon as he began to move, I touched the release and saw the hole open.  He bolted off just out of sight and came the crash..............then quiet.
