wtnhunt
Seen crows attack hawks here quite a few times, they seem to be vicious. Friday morning watched something with the crows I had never seen before. Had a mature bald eagle fly across the bottom just above the trees, it was flapping its wings almost the entire way. There were two crows not far behind it. Lost view of the birds to my right then a few minutes later they fly back across in front of me with the crows even closer and dive bombing the eagle. The eagle ended up circling around and landing in a tree about 200 yards across the bottom out in front of me, the crows continued harassing it and were getting within inches of the eagle where it was perched in the tree. Went on for a little while before the crows eventually left, cawing the entire way. I really do not like crows but this was kind of cool to see, anyone ever seen this kind of thing. RangerClay
I've seen it a lot. I've seen crows after owls and hawks. They make an awful racket. 34 years ago, opening day of my second deer season, I had it happen in a tree next to me. the crows were after a hawk. It went on for 15-20 minutes and it was driving me crazy so I shot a slug into the tree to scare them off. I have no way to prove it but a believe it makes deer nervous and they avoid the area till things quiet down.
Rhino
Seen it with eagles in MO and with hawks in MS. Seen mocking birds do the same thing to crows.
im your huckleberry
Crows even do that with ravens, but the raven will fly upside down just as the crow attacks as a diffence. It mostly happens to hawks and owls here. Occasionally magpies turn the table on the crows and a bit of pay back happens.
Adjam5
Most every fall we leave a deer rib cage out in our field for the raptors to feed upon. The crows constantly harass, and do what you described William the immature Eagles and Red Tails that come to feed. We once had a Turkey Vulture devour a fat woodchuck in a matter of minutes. I see a lot of predator/bird behavior in our field because of the carcass we leave just to see the birds.

Maybe so Joe. No telling how many times i have had crows tip me off to yotes, squirrels too. With that being said though been a number of times I have had crows flying over and cawing at deer or at least deer came in from where the crows told on something and alerted me to something coming. Interesting how sometimes the birds and squirrels can be going nuts and you are watching relaxed deer then other times what seems the same the deer act nervous. Sure they know the sounds and little differences way better than i do.

RangerClay
I just remembered that once I saw a bunch of crows run off a lone hen turkey off some corn. I few minutes later she returned with the rest of her flock and they ran the crows off. That was fun to watch.

I had a raven do that for me last hunting season when i was elk hunting, when there is known griz in the area you don't just charge in. The bush was very thick evergreen with some poplar through it. Dawg
I hate a crow. Watched upwards of at least 100 of them the other day at the lease....you can imagine the noises those bastages were making. Wished it wasn't illegal to shoot them. Legal here but certain days of the week. We had nuisance permission from our warden after crows wiped out our garden. They are a lot of fun to shoot with a rifle at medium ranges. Crows cannot be shot in Texas? Wow!...Even NYS has a season on crows. They are fun to shoot with the FoxPro caller.
wtnhunt
Had a doe and fawn inside 10 yards this morning while crows were going nuts on the other side of the bottom. Momma doe was very alert to the crows but she ended up crossing the bottom eventually and going towards where all the commotion was coming from. Couple crows landed in my pasture, would have shot then but no clear opening.

In NYS Crows are considered migratory and we are only allowed to hunt them Friday- Monday. They have the longest season of any game animal we can hunt in NYS. From Sept1st to March 31st. We shoot a good bunch of them. Here is one of the set ups we use.
im your huckleberry
Try an owl decoy on a fence post, with crows nearby don't let them see you. Then with a crow call blow a distress call of 5 caws and repeat a few times while hiding close by. Won a crow shoot doing that. Shaun_300
Very rare to see eagles here, funny you mention it though I just saw one a couple weeks ago. I've seen crows chase hawks and owls, and also see small blackbirds chase the crows lol. I was using them for target practice with the 17 HMR over the summer, shot quite a few between 100 and 150 yards. Shoot them right out of the kitchen window. WNY_Whitetailer
I witnessed crows chasing an owl through the woods when deer hunting approximately 15 years ago. It was super loud...Between the crows squawking and the owl busting branches as it was flying through the woods, the woods were not quiet that morning... buckee
Crows are always attacking hawks and eagles here too. Whenever I hear them going nuts in a tree in our neighbourhood, you can almost bet your money there is a coon up in the trees.
