wtnhunt
While processing my wife's deer last week I found a black thorn in the shoulder group fairly deep in the muscle. Was over an inch long and at first was not sure what it even was. Almost missed it cubing chunks for the grinder. Didn't see any sign of infection or any sign where it entered. Just cut out the immediate area and tossed it. Hadn't ever run across this before, anyone seen similar?

Strut10
Not in a deer. But have found BIG old prickly pear thorns in the feet of Rio Grande gobblers.

MUDRUNNER
Never found any in a deer before, but we do have a couple of honey locust trees on our place. Talk about nasty and mean. I can see how it could happen.
Rhino
Found a locust tree thorn before. It was pretty nasty with infection around it. Also found 3 broadheads I can recall in deer before too.
Turkeygirl
Yes. My buck from last year during gun season, I remember skinning him and found a mark on his rump. Sure enough in the hide was around 1" to 1.5" long crab apple tree thorn that had gone through and was poking him in the muscle. Goes to show how sharp those thorns are to go through deer hair and hide.
RangerClay
No thorns. I shot a buck with a broadhead healed over against his spine. My dad shot a buck once that had a gold ball sized gob of puss along the rib cage. No wound to go with it.

Shaun_300
Never found a thorn in a deer before, I do recall when I was a kid my uncles skinning a deer and there was a golf ball size lump, they went to cut it out and it burst and oozed out some stinky green puss. It was nasty. I remember my one uncle who has a weak stomach for that stuff gagging his brains out and the rest of us laughing at him. Do you guys have hawthorn trees down there? They have thorns on them 2-3 inches long! We have quite a few of them up here, hurts like heck to get pricked by one.
