I have to say it is a nice bow but the more I shot it and when I took it hunting, I guess I never quite fully fell in love with it. I can shoot my 2013 Elite Hunter much better for 3D. I think I just couldn't get use to the grip and weight. I found when shooting my bow arm tended to drop slightly with the weight. Never a problem before with any other bows. And I have to say, for me anyway, it is bulky in the tree-stand. I am going to shoot it here in a few weeks during indoor league and see if I do any better. I don't even like to pick up other bows until I'm ready to upgrade lol. As soon as I pick up the latest and greatest my wheels start turning and I end up really wanting a new one. dbHunterNY Posted December 28, 2016 Report Share Posted December 28, 2016 i don't think so. i've given or sold really cheap bows i've used in the past that i really liked but it was to get those new to shooting into it all with confidence. my previous 3D and hunting backup bow my cousin now has. i replaced it with a 2016 Elite Victory. thing holds still on target forever. a little long to hunt with but mostly used as a 3D bow. My primary hunting bow is a 2011 PSE Evo that is just as fast and smooth as many new bows. long story short i lost it on the highway and the mail man being a great guy returned it to me. it had minor road rash and no other damage. still to this day shoots as good as any day i've had it. fate has us killing deer together for as long as i can help it. I think a bow should feel like an extension of your arm to an extent and the Mathews just felt too cumbersome, for me. It's a nice bow and I'm going to shoot it for one of the leagues until I decide what I'm going to do. That is amazing to get your bow back and in one piece, wow. TRU Ball/Axcel Armortech sight took a lot of the impact. one of the knob edges was ground down i'd guess from contact with the pavement. i didn't touch anything and shot 3 arrows at a vegas face set out to 20 yards. all 3 were Xs and the bow was still dead on. After 2012 hunting season and wasting $1,000 on gasoline alone going back and forth to Indiana I got fed up and literally put my PSE Nova in the dumpster. LOL It needed it anyway, but I haven't shot a bow in 4 years and now I'm back with the bow hunting itch. Besides the Mathews and Hoyt train, I'd like to find a decent brand that will be dependable for 5 years and will be fast and most importantly quiet. I owned a bow, I think a Fred Bear bow I bought from Cabelas or Bass Pro Shop and it was sooo loud there was no way I could shoot at a deer 30 yards away and have it NOT jump the string. Boing!!! Boing!!! ha ha ha. Anyway, I keep looking on Craiglist to get a used one. Winter and Spring are great for buying used bows since people are like me and ticked off they didn't get a deer the year before and decide they've had enough. :-) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Shoots fast............shoots quiet............hits what I point it at............... It's pretty much become an extension of my left arm. Too much history to kick it to the curb. I have a 2011 PSE bow madness and it does fine for just being a main line series bow. I would like to get a new and have that one be my back. Yet I try not to look at new ones because I don't want to talk myself into throwing down the money for one. More impressed with Hoyt this year. It all comes down to what one shoots well. Elite released a new women's bow but nothing I'm super excited about. Not sure yet but yesterday I did hold a Carbon Defiant....I do like the grip and talk about light weight, not top heavy like the Halon. I want to try out a Carbon Defiant and Pro Defiant. Squirrelhunter91 Posted January 15, 2017 Report Share Posted January 15, 2017 Ruth I'm headed to shoot the new Hoyts next Saturday. Carbon Defiant is on my list. I'm somewhat torn though between the Carbon Defiant and the Carbon Defiant Turbo. The Carbon Defiant falls into the category of specs I like at 31" and 7" brace height. I've never cared much for speed bows but I also never owned one. But my issue is being I have a 26" draw I fall into a #1 cam on both models. On the Carbon Defiant Turbo I fall right into a #1 cam but I read somewhere that the Turbo model is a 5.5" brace with a #1 cam. That's a small brace and not very forgiving. Shot one this past week and really liked it. Toss up between that and the Bowtech Reign. Hoyt held nice, drew nice, shot nice. Going to be my new 3D rig and probably hunting with it also. They'll all get the job done, but comfort helps you be consistent. The brand/one your used to will always "feel better" right away. Once to shoot them a little though you can get an idea of how easily you can settle into shooting a bow and stay comfortable from shot to shot. our draw lengths being 3" or so different makes Axle length feel worlds different but a short 30.5" bow would be too short for me. it should feel longer to you though. you going with the 30.5" or 34" bow? What I found out was when hunting with the Mathews, for me it didnt work in the deer stand, and just a little bit heavy for my liking. Sometimes you don't know till you really start using something. Squirrelhunter91 Posted February 9, 2017 Report Share Posted February 9, 2017 Hey all.. I settled on a Hoyt Carbon Defiant 31.. Felt great in the hand and the draw cycle was incredibly smooth. My girlfriend ordered her first real bow too. She went with the Mathews Avail - their 2017 womens bow. She really liked the way the grip felt and the draw cycle was pretty smooth too. The Pro-Defiant I tried, I was pulling 54 lbs I'll probably settle with a 40-50 lb maxed out. The Avail is a good looking bow. It shoots like an absolute dream. Perfect bullet holes through paper. Its about 25 degrees outside right now with 30mph winds otherwise I'd be out there tuning. Maybe this weekend.
