Not picking up

With all of the hunting equipment companies having their own Facebook pages and offering regular give-aways and discounts on their products, I really think this is what as drawn people away from here. I really think that this site needs a manufacturing/company spot here to draw folks here to see what's up and coming with NEW companies and what they have to offer, and what improvements have been made to existing products ..

For example I happen to stumble upon a couple new companies ( at least to me ) such as Flying Arrow Archery, Savoy Leather, and Black Eagle Archery and many more. I know it's a lot to sift through with so many companies out there but something needs to be done (again just my opinion ) to draw new members in and even the old members that have moved to Facebook to get and learn about these products. I know Archerytalk has moved to this type of platform to keep it's existing members and draw in new members.

Just something to ponder ...

We used to be visited by the Kiskys, Ralph & Vicky, even Micheal used to pop in at times....Tim is on here more than anybody.  With smart phones and time in the stand, dropping by should NOT be a problem.

This was another thing I was going to mention, these realtree prostaffers have their own Facebook pages/Websites, but yet can't take the time to visit the REALTREE FORUMS and converse with their supporters ... NOT good in my opinion.

I visited the ProStaff room a bit ago and the ONLY Prostaff member to make a effort to connect with the folks that visit here is Tim Andrus, and he makes a honest effort to touch basis with everyone, and will actually take the time to make a personal connection with anyone that willing to strike up a conversation.

Really, I don't think other social media has as much an impact as some are suggesting.  I know a couple other hunting forums that used to be no heavier with traffic than this one are really kicking right now and have been, so social media has not negatively impacted those.

In my opinion the fallout a few years back has had more impact that drove away some members and probably negatively impacted posting, factor in all the forum issues with posting problems keeping folks away due to sheer frustration.  Maybe it might eventually pick back up with some new members coming in, dunno.

I will continue to post here for as long as they keep the site up. Still have some of the best folks here of any forum I have visited.

Same here.

I think a lot of our long-standing members got fed up..................and new folks stopping in for the first time ran into the lousy technical  issues  we had for years and never took a second look.

I'm on here pretty much, at least, once a day or more.  But I gotta admit that the drive to make new posts is not up where it used to be.  If a tree falls in the woods and.................

Agree with Don.  The technical issues we had before the recent upgrade had me fed up at times.  With those issues we had, it's difficult, at best to get new members to stay and old members got fed up with it too and left.  Now with the new upgrade it's a lot easier to post, post pictures, etc.  In time we'll see more members/new members join in.  I believe the only way you'll see a quick increase is through some type of promotion.  Either by us to people we know or through RT in some way.

Now, what Luke said about manufacturing/company sites could also be true.  From a product promotion standpoint, this site is for Reatree promoted products and prohibits other companies, or their representatives from promoting their products here without Realtree's permission.  I don't have any issues with that but if they want to change that, it's their call.  Not many people know this but a couple of years ago I became one of the owners of Millennium Outdoors through a buyout of the company.  One of the reasons I did it was because I like and had been using their treestands for years and saw the potential for growth.  I'm not going to promote their products here.  I'm not supposed to.  That's part of the terms we agree to when we join.

well...nobody's perfect...lol I dont have time for that f.b. crap

I AM perfect and I don't do FB.

Social media ain't for antisocial people.....................   If I have something I want someone else to know, I'll call them or drive to their house and TELL them.

I actually had a FB account for about a month.  Buddy of mine is a custom callmaker and his "website" was his FB page.  Registered with my cell # and IMMEDIATELY started getting friend requests from everyone in my directory.  THEN I got a couple friend requests from people I didn't even know !!!   Baloney !!!!    Unsubscribed right then & there.

It sure is slow. I'm not a member of any other hunting forum, but I know what William is saying with not all forums being as dead as it is here. I just came from the snowmobile forum that I'm on, that's the only other forum I'm an active member on... reminds me of how it used to be here, if not more busy! Hard to keep up even though I don't post much there, do more reading than anything.

I'll never stop coming here though no matter how dead it is, it's like dropping by and visiting and catching up with friends. Hard to believe I'm on my 13th year here.

Martin - don't get a FB account. We'll never see you again! LOL I guess I'm considered a long time member here. Joined about the same time I opened a FB account in 2008. I am also a member on a Southern Illinois Outdoors hunting forum site and it gets a new post about once every week (maybe). It was so rare I stopped visiting for months. I went back to say hi and had to create a new profile and everything.

I stop in here more during the hunting season. During the summer I'm not on here as much. I recently joined a crossbow facebook page and it has close to 1000 members posting stuff all the time. I'm already bored of it though. People always have to find fault with other hunters because they use a feeder, or a scope, or whatever. Good grief - I get tired of the bickering - if it's legal then there is no need to discredit the hunter.

That negativity doesn't happen here anymore - at least I haven't seen it. Of course I must add that Martin really screwed up shooting that 5-point instead of the 6 point - I'm worried I'm going to lose my bad boy buggy. LOL

If i recall correctly Luke, they already had their own site when they used to check in here.  Don't know why they quit coming around but think that was also around the time the chat room went down and was never really resurrected. Imagine some of those folks may have given up.  There were a couple "pro's" posting here back then when the site failures started.

Cannot remember the last time i saw Gary check in here.  Maybe some of you guys on facebook could invite some of these people back since the new upgrade is a little more user friendly.

I would guess Scott would be fine with you putting a link in your sig Al. Think one of the biggest concerns there had been with people coming on here and posting once or twice then spamming for their site.  Obviously you are not a spammer. lol

Like many of you I belong to several other forums. I also do not have a faceboog account, but my wife does. I belong to AT, a workout forum, a truck forum, a sports forum....all of them have been going strong. Not a single one has been down for a week or more to do upgrade that I can remember. I think the timing of the upgrade hurt also. Hopefully in time people will come back and see that the new format is much improved. This is still one of my favorite forums to visit, and has a great core of members. No doubt the fiasco a few years ago along with the recent technical issues have hurt the activity here, but there really was never a push to increase activity here.

Yep, they always had their own website, but what I was referring to was their Facebook page, they like many other Pro Staffers have their own Facebook pages that they use as forums, they also do weekly giveaways to draw people to their pages, I would think they would do the same for Realtree if that's who they are representing. Again, just is just my take on it, and I may be way off base with this.

Using Ralph and Vikki may have been a poor example on my part since they have their own company and show to look after, but I hope everyone gets the gist as to what I was trying to get at. Tim Andrus, seems to be the ONLY one that makes a effort to be on this site on a consistent basis, even tho he does the RUSH, and has his own Facebook page to tend to.

I definitely in no way am trying to bash or belittle anyone, but it seems to me Facebook has played a part in the lack of participation here. I for one would love to see these forums flourish once again.
