Tominator
What kind of sound do snow geese make when they're flying overhead? I saw about 10 birds fly over me yesterday when I was looking for sheds. Snows are pretty rare around here, but these birds looked kind of like seagulls, but they were flying in formation pretty fast, and they were making this little croaking like sound. Do you think they were snows?

clayman
Re: What Kind of Sound..... I wouldn't say they make a "croaking sound". THey sound more like a bad turkey slate call or a small barking dog. The DU website has a audio track of snow geese at this link http://www.ducks.org/waterfowling/gallery/index.asp?duck=

Palssonater
Re: What Kind of Sound..... I remember hunting in the marsh one day for ducks, when a huge flock of snow geese came over and landed in the big water. I would guess 3000. It was a still day, and we could hear them clearly. I just layed back and fell asleep to the noise. I find it oddly relaxing. I woke up to the sound of Jet engines. Another flock had joined the already landed.....sat a while and then all lifted together. My father in law guessed about 6000 birds lifting together. What a noise and experience. It is something I will always remember. I wish I could have had a camera.
clayman
Re: What Kind of Sound..... Oh yeah! I've been there and done that! It's one of those times you just put your shotgun down and take it all in without really caring about firing a shot.

These were white with black wingtips, short necks, so they weren't swans either. In reading the paper the other day, I'd say they were snows. I guess there's quite a bit of them in Ohio this year. It's only the 3rd or 4th time I've ever seen them.
