Dawg
Boiled 200 pounds of mud bugs today for the folks at work. Ended up bringing ~40 pounds home and had to talk others into taking some home as well. Guess it's better to have more than not enough! Shaun_300
That's one heck of a cookout! We use those things for bass bait up here LOL. Never heard of people eating them up here. People do eat lobster though. I know you guys love them in the south, so they must be good. I'm not a big seafood fan myself. All the more for you guys! Strut10
You catch those or buy those ?? Always wanted to try them. But they don't grow too terribly big around here. Would take a whole bunch to be worth messing with.
im your huckleberry
Shaun, I've heard they were called scampi in Canada.

I paid $3.50/lb last week and have heard of prices now at $2.80/lb. Should bottom out around $1.98/lb before season is over.
Rhino
Been a while since I participated in a crawfish boil. Planning to do one soon though as the price drops. Hard to beat good ol mudbugs! You wouldn't have to twist my arm much to get me to take leftovers home.

Interesting, I've never of them around here, but again I don't eat at seafood restaurants. Closest thing to that I like once in a while is spicy calamari. Dawg
Crawfish isn't seafood. They are primarily found in marshes, bayous, etc. A lot of them are farmed also.

wtnhunt
My oldest daughter tried to show my son one when we were on a walk a few springs back. Dadgum thing latched onto my boys finger and nearly drew blood before i was able to pry it off. He is still cautious of any critters with claws. Ravin R10 man
Tried lobster, did not see what the big deal was, I'd rather eat REAL meat! Edited January 22, 2017 by Mathews XT Man
im your huckleberry
At one time was going to try and farm a variety with body size a bit bigger than a mouse plus claws. The female I had spawned about 250 little guys, needless to say my aquarium fish cleaned these tidbits up pretty fast and end up with about a dozen and well fed fish lol. Dawg
Is the tail section the only part with an edible sized piece of meat ?? Yes sir that's the only meat on the bug. Bigger ones have a little bit of claw meat.
RangerClay
I tried them when I was in Texas years ago. Very yummy!!! Wish we had something like that around here.

Caught one when I was ~10 years old and put it in my aquarium, it lived for probably 5 years in there! It kept the tank pretty clean. It ate gold fish food and sometimes I fed them worms. The crayfish would get a worm half way down then the small catfish (3-5 inch) would grab the end and the battle royal was on LOL. Then one time the crayfish climbed up the aerator tube and ended up out of the tank, mom was watching TV and all of a sudden she started screaming because he was crawling across the floor towards her. Man that was funny.

MUDRUNNER
I haven't had crawdads in years. I used to go to a creek behind my house and flip over rocks and catch them when I was a kid. Once I would get a dozen or so Grandma would cook them up for me.
OKstate
That looks pretty tasty! We do crawfish a couple times a year, just never had that many done at one time.
