wtnhunt
Had issues with our local stockyard last fall, I refuse to use the local yard, owner has been caught by usda manipulating scales before. I contacted the usda with my concerns and they didn't seem to care, guess my operation is too small. So I have a couple real nice young brangus bulls that would make someone fine herd bulls. Someone mentioned using craigslist. After thinking it over eventually broke down and listed them. So far have had buyers from California and Michigan telling me they want them no questions asked, they will send me a "check" usps next day air and have their "private movers" pick up the animals. Ummm yeah right, why not just give em my account number and have them wire me the money. My reply have the "mover" bring cash money! I don't do business that way. So after looking into it these scammers give what in all appearances is a real check or money order, you deposit or cash it then they somehow can attack your bank account. May end up carting them off 35 miles to the next town. No doubt gonna have to start using that yard for the feeders anyway.
RangerClay
Oh man I've been through this. I once put an ad in Craigslist that I was looking for a golden retriever pup. Got spammed to death with purebred puppies for only $100,. Just send them a check and they will send a puppy I'm amazed that people buy into their BS. im your huckleberry
They are all over the place. Have had phone calls saying that thay are Canada revenue agency (the tax man) threatening to put you in jail if you don't pay a fake bill. Thing is the CRA doesn't phone they use the mail, and on call display it's a toll free number and from out of the country. When they phone I play along then ask them if your CRA why does your phone number show up as toll free 800, CRA uses a number that shows up as Government of Canada all you here is click disconnected. These scammers are just ruthless and will stop at nothing to get money from you. Phoned the police and they said it was hard to pinpoint their location but it is probably originated from east Africa. After about 4 calls in 2 weeks asked them if it was a custom to beat a dead horse in the country that they are from, because the word is out from the authorities that they are a scam and most people know about it and that doesn't even deter them they still call. They are about as smart as a dead horse.

Think the next one I get asking for my address to send me an overnighted check that I might just give them our sheriff's name and the address for the sheriff's dept! Then call him and give him a headsup.

Adjam5
It is what they do...Scam. Feel so sad for the folks that buy into the BS and lose a lot. My 90 year old Ma got a call once from a scammer pretending to have my son Joe in a Canadian jail and needed money to get him out. Ma watches the news she is on board with current events. Needless to say. My Ma owned the scammer. Layed into him with a diatribe... I think she still has to say Novenas for. Good luck with the bulls William. Is there a state cattle association that might be able to steer you( no pun intended) in the right direction?

Is there a state cattle association that might be able to steer you( no pun intended) in the right direction? Thanks Anthony. I am not a member of the Tennessee cattleman association. Not sure the requirements, I know some of those associations the dues are ridiculous and you have to have so many animals. We currently only have 21 animals on our place, of which 3 are horses. Man I buy my hay from has over 200 momma cows, he is a member of a couple different cattle associations, he was telling me that he had to take a test and pay pretty hefty dues but they do help him out with substantial discounted rates on anything associated with his operation. Dawg
I like playing along with the scammers....funny thing William, I used to get calls on my cell phone a lot so I got to where I would try to sell them cattle. I get a kick out of getting them all flustered. I had some Abdula Habalabadingdong call my office not too long ago. When I picked the line up the caller id showed a strange number so I listened for a few seconds. Ol Abdula finally said "hello?"......mistake on your part Abdula! I replied "Jasper County Sheriffs Department, how can I help you?" Abdula was undeterred by my greeting and says something about my computer having a virus and he needed to do a remote login. So again I say to Abdula...."Sir you have reached the Jasper County Sheriffs Department, how can I help you?" Now Abdula must be a very persistent man because once again he tried to tell me my computer was compromised and needed to login. So again I reply but a bit more stern "Sir you have reached the Jasper County Sheriffs Department, , this is Detective so-n-so, your call is being traced, now how can I help you?" Mr. Habalabadingdong suddenly realized he had the wrong number...

Last time we got one did similar to you with saying the call was being traced. Catrina had a call on her cell yesterday afternoon from a number she did not recognize, she just kept saying hello, then reverted to saying no hablo or si, eventually the guy on the other end was laughing.
