OOPS!!!

Weather has been pretty nasty since the first 2 days of the season (at least when I was free to hunt) so my 4th day hunting was this past weekend.  I successfully roosted a bird late Saturday near where I'd heard a bird gobbling his head off a few days before the opener.  I got up early the next morning and got to where I wanted to be before dawn ~100 yards short of where he was roosted…I thought so anyway.  As the crack of dawn turns to light I impatiently wait for the bird to gobble in front of me.  Finally he gobbles and nearly blows my hat off!  OMG...I've screwed up big time, he's roosted in a tree ~30 yards right behind me.  Owls are going nuts on the ridge south of me making this gobbler go nuts!  He must have gobbled 50 times on the roost…LOUD at that range making me cringe almost every time.  Obviously, I couldn’t move at all and my shotgun is in my lap.  He finally hits the ground with a hen off to my left out of sight on the side of the ridge we're on.  I ease out a slate call and cluck at them...2 more birds hit the ground to my left in sight…male turkey heads is all I can see…oh boy...in business!  They pause there so I manage to dish out a soft yelp...here they come!  They come up into full view at the 25 yard line…2 jakes.  The gobbling turkey finally issues his 1st gobble on the ground.  He's down the side of the ridge with the hen occasionally clucking headed toward the bottom.  I managed to get him to answer me once but I'm stuck there with one of the jakes abusing my hen decoy.  If I try to move on him the jakes will certainly issue the alarm putt & I'm screwed.  The gobbler issued his 3rd and final gobble on the ground in the bottom ~8:00.  I managed to take this pic of one of the jakes strutting in front of me.  Great, fun hunt but another one of those close & no cigar hunts.  Round 2 with him tomorrow morning.  This time I'll be in the bottom before dawn.
