fly
We decided to expand the bean field to 1 acre this year and add an additional 1/2 acre electric fence extension. Last year the round up ready beans grew up and fell on the fence a few weeks before we wanted to take the fence down. This year we weren't having that happen again. A few weeks later and everything is looking great for the September 2nd start! I also just bought this truck to bring the back straps home. wtnhunt
Plot looks good Frank. You guys must have broadcast them a little heavy. I did the same with mine. Congrats on the new truck. Will try to get some pics of our plots next time I get to them. I put in 3 small roundup "resistant" bean plots here, beans are late getting in and first time trying this seed from rural king. I need to spray two of them and hit a few spots in the bigger one I guess I missed last week when I sprayed. Danged deer flies were relentless even with repel bug spray on, gonna have to find something better. Will be time to start looking at stand prep soon. Bought an adjustable pedestal for the boat seat for my old permanent rifle stand. Pulled the seat last week and got it mounted to the pedestal, just need to take it back and mount it to the floor. Have to figure out where I am gonna put the two man ladder I picked up from wally world after season ended. Need it where I can slip kids into easily. Have some hornady eld x rounds loaded in 270 and 308 that I plan to hunt with this fall. Have not hunted with my newest rifle(model 700 varmint sf in 308) yet, might get to break it in this year during our rifle season. I really need to take down our box blind and rebuild the box, but probably wont get to that this year.
elkoholic
For my style of hunting, which is mainly still hunting with some intermittent calling, the only thing is to make sure the rifles, pistols and bow are shooting straight and then practicing enough to make sure I do my part. My time sitting in a stand is limited due to an apparently angry back/spine but I do have a tree stand site on an active creek crossing that I may utilize that may need a little limb trimming to open up shooting lanes. The new truck looks good, but a little blood in the back will make it look better.

fly
I hope to paint the bed of that truck red this fall! We over seeded for sure William. We easily could have went with half of what we threw down. The deer numbers are so high at this KY farm that it only took them a month to reduce the 1/2 acre bean field to stubble last season. We hope a full acre will at least get us through the ML season in mid-October. We too will put in a box blind for kids but likely not this year. MUDRUNNER
Sharp looking truck Frank. What's the gas mileage like? I need to upgrade my old Ford at some point. I love the old truck, but it's not cheap for me to drive anywhere lol. Food plot looks great! I have a feeling your going to have a great season in Kentucky. As usual I have done nothing to prepare for this season yet lol. I'm hoping this weekend I can get to the farm and get some trails and shooting lanes trimmed. I noticed this week that the new seasons have started of hunting shows, so that is usually my trigger that I need to start getting my crap together. Rhino
Plot looks great Frank. Nice new ride too! Haven't really started any new preparation yet for this coming season except for getting our clover plots cut in Missouri. Our neighbor there is doing that right now. We are going there the end of next week to start some preseason preparation chores and set out the cams.
fly
Tim, the gas mileage is terrible for a mid-size V-6 truck. I am an 80% city driver which hurts. My average on the one tank I've had in it came to 17.2 mpg. My old Ford F-150 averaged 14.5 mpg (V-8). The sticker price was 30k but I talked them down to 26K and a financing rate of 2.69% which was good enough for me. A friend of mine has the Frontier and it has been a great little truck for him. It's also several thousand dollars less than the Colorado and Tacoma equipped with the same things and over 5K less than the Canyon. Good luck with the cams Al. We've had ours out for a month and have one nice shooter from last season that made it. The others were just starting antler growth and couldn't tell if they would make shooter status yet. Sure come September you will have some new colors in the bed. We just don't have the type of density in the herd here to see plots get wiped out like that. Have not had in a long time, Can get away with planting smaller bean plots. Probably helps to have ag crops nearby too. What type soybeans did you all plant. Wanted to go with eagle beans here again, but the dadgum shipping would have cost ridiculous money.
fly
Eagle bean is what's available at the local ag store in KY. They are a forage bean and we add inoculate. The reason there are so many deer is that the land is surrounded by subdivisions. The deer can't be hunted in the residential areas so the population is very high. We love it though - always nice knowing you'll see deer every sit.

Soybeanman(Brad), he does not answer messages though so think he maybe forgot he was a member. lol. I have tried a couple of the eagle forage bean seeds in the past and had very good results. Closest distributor for them here is over 2 hours away. I called about ordering some and the first bag, shipping was like $25, and rather than getting a break for more bags the cost per bag actually went up after one to ship them so this time I went with the $25 a bag stuff from rural king. Deer eat soybeans in ag fields, so figure they will eat these too. Woods around residential areas no doubt can be special, last years Tennessee record buck proved that. im your huckleberry
Looking good fly, nice truck too. Say is that a frontier? If it is you will be able to bring more than one deer home in that. My 2014 successful moose draw was brought back home in a Pro 4X frontier, springs were pretty straight took the arch out of them. lol Edited July 3, 2017 by im your huckleberry
fly
A moose! I'll bet it too the arch out. It is a Frontier.
wtnhunt
Got the ladder stand in the bottom swapped out with the two person ladder stand over the weekend. Thought both stands were 15 ft, but the single stand sat on the tree about 3 ft higher. Gonna need a little trimming there and probably gonna use an artificial Christmas tree to help add some back cover. Might have to figure out a better option for a shooting rail for the kids with that stand, the rail is not sturdy enough. Soybean plot in the bottom with the extra moisture down there is thriving despite having very little rain over the month of July. Not sure where I am putting that other ladder stand, have a few hang ons I also need to get out this next week or so. Played around with the seating depth on some reloads after picking up a hornady oal gauge and bullet comparator a while back. Got the scope on my .308 dialed in with my handloaded hornady eld-x rounds yesterday afternoon. Shot the .270 with eld-x rounds a few weeks ago, pretty happy with those groupings. Gonna have to save a few milk jugs to test bullet performance in the next coming weeks. Was not happy with the game king bullet performance at 150 yards for the .308, excellent accuracy but the bullets came apart too much for my liking, hopefully these eld's hold together at closer ranges a little better. Still undecided on how much clover and rye grain I am gonna put in this fall, but have to get that seed ordered soon.
wtnhunt
Got rye ordered, probably going to sow some in to standing bean plots near the end of September. Going to replant about an acre of clover and add rye grain to that plot. Current view from the new 2 person ladder stand. Need to take the pruner and do some trimming. Beans on the left side of the fence doing fairly well considering how dry it was in July.
sskybnd
Being I haven't hunted in 2 years, I feel pretty good about it, think leaving my little hunting area alone for a while, Ive done some scouting early this year and found a lot of last years scrapes,

wtnhunt
Got this 2 person stand trimmed out looking at soybeans in the bottom. Have some grass and weeds in the beans, might spray them again and then toss some rye grain in ahead of a rain. Getting bean production, pretty happy with these rural king beans, deer are eating them some, should start getting hammered when the ag beans and corn starts coming out around us. wtnhunt
Should have been doing more prep work this weekend but have some ongoing issues with mom that have taken a bit away from free time. Have my seed ready. Might get to spray roundup and 24d this afternoon on the +- acre i have mowed if things workout. Wont attempt a burn at this point. Gonna over seed about 2 acres of rye for our cows, and hand broadcast rye into the soybeans. With the flooding we have turkeys back around, figures. Stinger-Hunter
I've done a lot of Google Earth and Bing (BirdsEye View) Scouting on places on public land that I've hunted before. Not much new information, but just preparing myself for alternative spots if there are hunters near places I know are deer. I am definitely headed to Lasalle Fish and Wildlife in Indiana just east of Kankakee IL tomorrow early morning. There is a spot that I seriously do not think any hunter actually hunts. I need boots on the ground to check it out. If it is as good as I think it is, there will likely be a county record buck in there (or 3). Can't wait to check it out, I'm sure it will be loaded with mosquitoes. LOL
wtnhunt
A little later than I would have liked but got our fall plot in. Will post some updated pics soon when the rye shoots up a little more.
