Dawg
I put in for 20 different hunts in the home state this year. Just started applying for these last year so I'm not expecting to get drawn anytime soon. The odds are ridiculous on some but you can't get drawn if you don't apply! Really hoping for a mule deer hunt up in Caprock Canyons SP or Palo Duro SP. Threw in some apps for exotics as well as whitetail and hog. Fingers crossed the boy or I will get drawn for something! texastrophies
you are right about someone has to get drawn. It happened to me last year on the Private Land Antelope hunt. 1 tag and over 1500 applicants and I got drawn. My son and I have gone on a few hunts. I think there are quite a few deer hunts that the odds aren't real bad, but the ones that are more trophy type are long odds. I have been applying since the late 90's for some of the hunts. Mule deer is my main attraction, also, but I'm looking more towards the west Texas hunts. Good luck to you.

Dawg
The son and I both drew the antlerless hunt at Matador WMA. Hunt is 12/16/17 - 12/20/17. Still waiting for several draw results to take place but I'm happy we drew something!
texastrophies
That's cool, we struck out on the draws they had yesterday. More to come...

We didn't see a single deer. There were, I think, 20 hunters on the 28K acres. Out of that only 8 doe were killed and one hog.

Probably could have scratched one out if we could have stayed the full 5 days. This won't keep me from applying again though.

Hoping to draw a Caprocks mule deer buck tag. Funny how life changes things when you think you have it all planned out. Within the last month we have taken in our nephew on a kinship placement by CPS. We had him and his two sisters for almost the whole year 2016. They all have been taken from their father, the girls are with his mother and the boy was with a family friend for a while but wanted to move in with us. He is 14, loves to fish but hasn't had too much hunting experience. Looks like I'll be spending a little more money on some draw hunts....and I'm totally fine with that! texastrophies
Good on you, Sir!!! And the youth hunts are awesome. I can't wait until I get the chance to do that again. Also you might want to check out the Texas Youth Hunting Program linked below. I took Jake on many of those, some are management type hunts, some are for some nice trophys http://www.tyhp.org/?print=true
