PAbowhunter4life
Well, I have concluded that having String Leeches on my SQ2 doesn't make it any quiter than not having them on there. So, I am thinking about yanking them off which will give me a few extra fps as well. Anyone here shoot their bows without silencers?
Tominator
Re: String Silencers....... I just have simple old, $1.00 cat whiskers on my Legacy. High dollar leeches or Simms stuff is a waste of money on my bow IMHO.
JimT
Re: String Silencers....... I use leaches. They only cost $10.00 a year to have so money is not really an object. I will always have something in my string for sure.
Chrud
Re: String Silencers....... I'll be shooting either an O or S-Back without leeches or string silencers. It's so quiet right off the shelf.

PAbowhunter4life
Re: String Silencers....... Yeah, I have used them on every other bow I have ever owned and they do work, however they don't last long. When I put them on in spring I usually have to put a new pair on by the end of summer because they break after so many shots. I had them on the Mathews, but like I said, I just don't hear the difference this time like I have in the past.

PAbowhunter4life
Re: String Silencers....... Yes they will, but on a Mathews the proper place on the bottom of the string has a factory speed button installed already lol, so putting a silencer on will only slow the bow down. I actually saw a post on the Mathews web page where a guy did a sound test with a db meter on different Mathews bows. He concluded that even with the top of the line string leeches there was no change in the db level due to the Mathews bows being very quiet off the rack. The only noticable change was in the sound produced by the string, not the level of sound.

AdvantageTimberLou
Re: String Silencers....... I use cat whiskers and like them. Have used the yawn puffs in the past. Heard on other forums about leeches breaking after the shot and guys getting hit in the eye and injuries happening. Thought I heard about it on Mathews website forums. To me I like the classic cat whiskers!! Lou
VTbowman
Re: String Silencers....... PA- I too came to the conclusion that the string leaches were no good on my SQ2. At least I could not hear a difference in noise with or without them. I have heard a difference on other bows though, hense why I tried them. I went to simple rubber cat whiskers for the longest time and they are noticably quieter accessary. However, when I did my chrono testing last fall I saw they too slowed my string down a bunch (16fps), so I found the best of both worlds, for my SQ2. I took the one off up by the wheel and moved the lower one to as close to the cam as I felt safe with, then I trimmed it to a ball, at about 1" long whiskers. This seemed to really work well for me. Plus I know they last for years vs. the leached that will cut themselves off after a season or two. Good Luck!
slughunter
Re: String Silencers....... i like using string leaches for a lot of reasons one they dampen the shock and second they serve as a wind detector
