Fellas I'm stoked about this season.  Not much going on outside of normal hunting season other than an antlerless hunt in December at the Matador WMA up close to the Texas panhandle.

Just got my camera out two weeks ago at the lease in Newton County.  Going to check it Wednesday.  I do know I have a sounder of pigs coming in so I'm going to do what I can to kill as many as possible before the gun opener in November.

Rode out to the Newton County lease to check my camera.......no worky.  I put fresh batteries in it the day I set it out and walked in front of it to see if the IR light came on and it did.  Guess the camera itself crapped out on me.  Oh well.....guess I'll have to buy another one.

Still hot down here in southeast Texas.  We are supposed to get a cool front next weekends which will bring mid to high 50's for our lows and high 70's low 80's for the high.  That'll be a refreshing break from the heat and humidity and maybe get the hogs up and moving around.

cold front came thru, went from 70's to 50's overnight....pretty much got my fall to do list done, hedges trimmed, sewer covered, a.c. covered,...  even mowed lawn Fri., powerwashed mower and put up for winter... NEVER had to mow this late EVER!  I love global warming! Got my Gator back from shop, had it's first complete inspection/replacement of wore parts at 4k miles.  It's ready to plow snow and run to feed deer all winter now.

may get out to hunt today after church, pull cards and see if anything was moving first..

lets go team 2!

Checked cams last night.  Same group of hogs coming in and in true hog-like fashion, there's no pattern to their movement.....6am, 9am, 12pm, 3am, 7pm.....just whenever they feel like showing up they show up.  The tall 6 pointer is becoming a regular but I'm not sure he is going to be legal.  He needs to be culled but AR restrictions will probably keep that from happening.  Also have a doe and her two yearlings (one I know is a nubbin buck) that are regulars as well plus one lone doe is showing up at night.  The rut is getting kicked off pretty good right now so no telling what will show up in the next couple of weeks.

My cousin has a stand ~600 yards through the timber from me and he has a very nice 8 point on his cam.  Definitely a shooter.

Youth season is this weekend.  I'll have the son on the stand early Sunday morning.  Really hope the hogs make a show so we can start erasing their numbers.

After our first winter storm, and heavy snow, I went out Sat. after storm wound down. Got in stand at 10 a.m. and stayed put until 5:30 overcast and hovering temp at 30...trees were all flocked white, making for a pretty sight. I had one spike cruising thru, a couple button bucks, and usual does and fawns.  End of week started  getting bigger bucks on feet in daylight. Saw first scrape  sat.  This next week will start to ramp up the rut, I'd say we are about two weeks from main breeding phase here
