Winter has arrived

houses are going up in flames as people are trying to thaw out pipes . Came by a house this afternoon late on way home,  totally engulfed!..I backed up to check it out, seemed to be nobody home. looked down road and here come the blue car I'd seen earlier at that house with fire engine right behind...  I know the guy in the car so I asked him what happened. He said he was thawing out the pipes and hay that was under the house for insulation had caught fire...he was very distraught over it as it was his brothers property.

"Hay that was under the house for insulation" your kidding right?  And he was using a torch to thaw out pipes.  Wow, wonder how the ins co is gonna handle a deal like that.

We get a slight break, it is colder now than it will be at 5 am, and I may go sit in a tree in the morning for a few hours before heading to an appt.  We are supposed to get close to 32 tomorrow.   Then back to the teens or 20's for highs for a few more days with lows back down in the single digits.

We had 4 weeks of temps never getting out of the single digits and lows well below zero.  Then on Saturday it warmed up and the past 4 days have been in the mid 30s with a little bit of rain.  Snow level in the back yard went from 30+ inches of fluffy snow to 16 inches of heavy, wet snow.  I much prefer the cold when it comes to snow and moving it around.

Snow doesn't bother me to drive on,  it is those that don't know how to drive that bother me.

Roads bad enough here no mail delivery Friday or Saturday.  Our church services were even cancelled and most members live in town.

Looking like we may get round 2 of the slop on Tuesday, don't see what we have now melting too much before then either.

The weather has been crazy this winter here. Had a month where it didn't get above 0F at all, -20 to -30 a lot of days, windchill values flirting with -50. Only had a foot of snow on the ground. That was until this past week. Thursday and Friday a warm front moved in and it hit 54 degrees! Quite a bit of rain too. Snow was pretty much gone. Friday morning when I left for work it was 52, by noon it was below freezing, and that evening it was -10, got a mix of ice pellets, freezing rain and snow evening and overnight too. Hasn't warmed up since. Looks like it is slowly coming up this week and we'll be back above freezing by the weekend. Then into the mid 40s sunday with more rain. Feel bad for all the people who went out and "peed" away $20K on a new snowmobile, insured it, spent around $500 in trail passes if they got both Ontario and Quebec. A lot of money to have it sit in a garage all winter lol. Still a 3 months of winter though so it's definitely not over yet.

Crazy winter here in central MS.  Got snow Tuesday with a high around 25 that day.  Yesterday morning at dawn the wind chill here was -3.  We set record lows here Tuesday and yesterday.  The weather here has been more like midwest weather than southern weather.  Dang global warming!!!
