Found this on the Minnesota DNR website today:

2005 spring turkey hunt surplus licenses still available (2005-03-16)

A limited number of surplus 2005 Minnesota spring turkey hunting licenses go on sale at 5 p.m. Monday, March 21, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hunters may purchase a surplus spring turkey license at any of approximately 1,800 license agents statewide, or online on the Department of Natural Resources Web site at www.dnr.state.mn.us.

For those who did not apply for the 2005 spring turkey permit lottery, this will be the first opportunity to purchase a surplus license.

The $18 surplus turkey licenses are available to anyone 12 years old and older. People born after Dec. 31, 1979, must have a firearms safety certificate to purchase any Minnesota hunting license.

More information about the spring turkey hunt is available on the DNR Web site. A list of available spring hunting permits will be posted on the DNR Web site by noon on March 21.

Maybe I will have some luck (third times a charm...) But I need to figure out what zones are left and get some permission.... crazy.gif

Re: WHAT IS THE DEAL!

WF Gal,

I thought I'd emailed you about that before or maybe it was someone else. Anyway, don't count those last two seasons out. I've 2 birds in the last 3 years in the 2nd to the last season and last year was my "Missing Fit" which would've made it 3 for 3. I always apply for the 2nd to last season as I get to hunt every year, don't have to deal with getting a left over tag, the foliage is spectacular, and the birds are challenging as well. Finding permission should be a snap as not too many are out for those seasons from what I've seen. Good luck. If you plan on attempting to get a tag, make sure you are there before 5:00pm and standing in line. I've heard they go quick. The DNR website has a PDF file with zones and times plus how many available.

Re: WHAT IS THE DEAL!

Waterfowler gal,

I believe that you can go on line now to purchase those leftover liscenses. I'm not sure what's left. But March 21st will be the first day those you didn't apply for the lottery can get a liscense. You were an unsuccessful lottery person and don't need to wait until then.

At least that's how I understand it.
