Ravin R10 man
First season came in on Wed., but was not able to hunt until Sat., got in blind at 5:30 a.m. and had at least 3 Gobblers 100 yards from me roosted. They flew down with hens and would not respond to calling other than gobbling back. Off they went after the hens. I had my Pretty boy out with a lone hen, called on and off all day, hoping to get a roaming bird to answer. about 3 p.m. I had 7 hens come in from direction all the birds had gone in the morning., coming back to feed and roost for the eve., They stayed on my plot and fed and rested in the 60 degree sun. It was getting near 6 p.m and 3 hours of watching and listening to the purring of content hens, here comes a big 'ol Tom in silent, he eyes up my Pretty Boy and struts back and forth in front of him, then the hens get mixed in there, so Im waiting for my clear shot. Finally he pops his head up at 30 yards and I let my #.5 inch 12 Ga. federal Turkey load fly. Down he goes and he dont even move. 9 inch beard, 1 inch spurs , and 22 lbs. 2003 and 2004 Dnr released around 150 birds in the North, Spring and Fall season was implemented a few years after that. This makes number 14 for me, as I hunted near Black River Falls prior to our season here. a selfie is what Im posting off back of Gator; 2018 gobbler pic.eml 2018 gobbler pic.eml

It used to be that way Frank when I started down south of here near Melrose/ Black River Falls area, sure dont miss the 3 hr drive to get to the cabin, spend weekend trying to get a bird, basically two sits and done, and getting back sunday eve. Had we had Turkeys here 30 years ago, I'd prob be looking at numbers simular to Al too....think our birds came from Mo. back in 73 or 74? and only were planted in southern Wi. Was looking at those 7 hens, thinking they could produce anywhere from 50 to 80 young ones if all went well. Heading back Thursday to hunt with my son for a few days, then my buddy Ernie is coming in to go for his 2nd bird too.
fly
Martin - I'm glad to see the wolves haven't been too hard on the turkeys like they have been on the deer. At least it seems that way.
Ravin R10 man
actually only had one wolf on cam all winter, did see a pack of three back in Feb. for some reason they really wanted to keep running west as fast as they could?? Bobcats can be tough on them too...this winter had it's moments with sub zero temps, but seems not to have been real tough on them as in other years, didnt have the snowcover until late Edited April 25, 2018 by Mathews XT Man
