longislandhunter
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot I would hunt there without worrying, Just bring some pepper spray with you on the way into your spot. Can you archery hunt bears in NJ?
Doc
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot Just don't be making any pony noises on your way to your stand. Doc
mainebuck
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot my advice: carry a pistol if you're bowhunting there. Either that or wear depends when you'll be going to or coming from your treestand in the dark incase you hear any funny noises.
tedicast
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot [ QUOTE ] my advice: carry a pistol if you're bowhunting there. Either that or wear depends when you'll be going to or coming from your treestand in the dark incase you hear any funny noises. [/ QUOTE ] Not sure about the NJ game laws, but in Connecticut it is illegal to carry any type of firearm while bow hunting.
Rayzorp
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot No pistol allowed (pity), bear seaon In NJ comes and goes. We had our first bear hunt in decades last year, looks like it's off this year. To be honet, I'm scared. never came across a bear. The crazy weather has limited the food source word, is bears are coming out of the dens desperate. Definitely won't go there at night but invest in pepper spray for sure. buckee
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot I have a real problem with bears on some property I hunt too. I don't walk in there in complete darkness anymore, because I've been surprised just too many times. I've had a few hair raising experiences in broad daylight in there as well, so it's better to be safe than sorry. I carry bear spray with me now and always wait untill there is a bit of light to walk in by. Black-bears can be dangerous, and it sounds like that ol' fella could be one of them. He's lost his fear of humans and is a little too bold for his own good ...be careful...and take him out if you get the chance
Rayzorp
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot Black bear in that part of New Jersey have no fear for humans. When they are hungry, they go where they want to go. I have yet to hear of an attack on humans, but I can see one following me as I drag my freshly gutted deer out of the woods. As soon as Iget my repellant, I'll do some scouting
BuckNrut
Re: This happened on other side mountain of new spot Now don't be hurting those poor defenseless cute NJ bears. Maybe the antis would be willing to transport those cute bears to a "safe" place? At least their money would be better spent. Kind of reminds me of those cute defenseless mountain lions in CA.
