I had another great sit with this buck walking underneath me at 10 yards at last light.  I was also able to get a good look at the 10 I posted pics of earlier.  I watched him for probably 10 minutes as he bumped some does around in front of me and worked some scrapes.  While he’s a beautiful deer this season, I think he could really put on some horn next year.  His main frame looks to be 140+/-5 inches along with probably 6-10 inches of kickers off the bases putting him likely right around 150.

Great looking buck Pat. Congratulations!

Hunting has been tough so far. Been out about 7 or 8 times and only had one shot opportunity at a tall four point. He walked right under my stand at 7am yesterday. I have seen one shooter while on stand and that was last week. He was walking in a field about 150 yards away. I grunted and he heard me but had no interest in a fight. It's been a long while that I've went this far into the season without harvesting a deer.

Unfortunately I Lost half of the 50 acre farm i have been hunting for the past decade. A relative of the farmer has started hunting and put up a stand 20 yards from one of my stands on the east side of the property . He took down my trail cam and left a note to call him. Nice guy and all but sucks for me.

I've been saving for land (got about 20K for a down payment) and hopefully can find a reasonably priced parcel for next season.

Just when I couldn’t get more excited about leaving this weekend to chase whitetails in Kansas, my friends at Lucky Outfitters in Southern Illinois have invited me down to hunt during this trip as well!!  I get to spend nearly two weeks chasing whitetails in Kansas and Illinois during the peak of the rut!!!

Then I get to come home to Indiana just in time for our firearms opener on the 17th.

OH SWEET NOVEMBER!!!!!

Awesome news Pat!

I haven't been hunting in a week but will be out as much as possible for the month of November. I took the girlfriend down to S. IL this past weekend. We stayed in Alto Pass (Union County) and I did some scouting and hung a stand in preparation for deer camp in a couple weeks. Was walking on snake road to scout an area I hunt and had quite the experience. We walked about 100 yards on the road and saw a huge cotton mouth on the road. The girlfriend freaked of course. She wanted to go back to the truck so we did. Saw 6 more snakes on the way back we didn't see the first time. Pretty crazy stuff!

This time of year here, not unusual at all to see copperheads and water moccasins, even get them in the yard.  No shortage of them around.  Matter of fact, or dog got snake bit again, somewhere under her chin this time on Tuesday.  She had followed me down to clean some mess around one of my stands.  Found her later in the day when I got back drooling bloody drool all over our front deck.  I did not see any snakes myself but figured they were active.  We gave the dog a dose of dexamethasone and long acting pen and 3 days later she is all better.

Snakes are still protected here, warden told us use discretion.

Been tough this year with limited hunting access so I had decided to take whatever presented a good shot. This 2.5 year old 8-point took the wrong trail today. No rut activity - was scared to me by a 4 wheeler. Whatever... I’ll take it. Only a 15 yard Shot with the X-bow. He ran 50 yards and fell over. Great feeling knowing you have a gimme track job. He’s no giant but given my current circumstances I’m happy to get him.  Oh yea... on the drag out I got chased by some cows. Had to drop the deer cart and jump a fence. They mooed a while then finally left. Crazy cows.

Hey guys, I haven't had much luck yet. Our rifle season opened on Oct 26, however I had to take off out on the Atlantic Ocean on Oct 29 on a five day commercial fishing trip so I missed some hunting ( and I cried lol ). I've been a few times this week with nothing. I plan on going back to camp next week again for another try. Our lobster season opens on Nov 26 so my time in the woods is getting short.

congrats on the buck Frank!!  I know the feeling with cattle and I hate hunting around them.

Unfortunately I had to leave Kansas a week early due to an issue at work.  I saw plenty of deer just not the right one to kill.  It’s highly unlikely I get back out there this season.  I may still get down to Illinois, but right now I’m getting ready for Indiana’s gun opener this weekend.

I’m very excited to take my wife hunting Saturday night.  She has never killed a deer but has been with when I’ve shot and passed a few young bucks herself.  Being her first deer, she is free to take whatever she wants on the farm.  I manage intensively for mature deer, but whatever makes the wife happy makes me happy on this hunt!  The important part is spending time together and enjoying the outdoors!!!

Hey guys, nothing yet. I'm headed back to camp Monday to hunt Monday afternoon Tuesday and Wednesday. Then that will be it for me for this season. Our lobster season opens Nov 26 so I'll be getting all ready for that the end of next week. I have a beautiful huge 8 pointer on my cam so I'm hoping and praying that he shows himself this time. Its giving snow for Tuesday and the rut should be in full tilt so I,m hoping he gets stupid chasing does .

All you have to do here is drag and drop Lewis.  You should see a paperclip below the text box.  Just click where it says choose files and drag your pics from your computer or phone to the box.
