Got snow now

We hit 69 here this morning, was still 69 when my 7 year old son and I walked in walmart.  The bottom dropped out with hard blowing rain coming in sideways just as we were walking out of the store, temp fell to 64 in just 30 minutes.  No great surprise on the way home a tornado watch was issued for the counties just to the east of us, air has that feeling to it that just doesn't feel right.

Looking like we may get snow or eh mix or eh slop here Thursday, that is the day the kids go back to school.  One thing for certain is this ground here is absolutely rotten, we did not need more rain.

We were supposed to get that storm but it fell as freezing rain here. Same on New Year's Eve... was calling for 8 inches of snow and we only got maybe an inch with 1/4" of ice on top of it. Had about 2 inches this morning and another 2 is supposed to fall tonight. Then another 8 inches for Monday into Tuesday if the forecast doesn't change. Think we had more snow on the ground in late October than we do now. Snowmobile trails aren't even open yet here. They have quite a bit more snow about 1-2 hours northwest of here and the trails are open. Everyone is trailering up there to ride.

Hard to tell with the wind blowing it all over but we got probably 8-10 inches last night. There was some drifts 2-3 feet high in the driveway. Just finished blowing the yard out with the tractor. Sure happy to have our Case 95 with the heated cab. Would have froze my rear end off on the cab-less David Brown today LOL. -35°F with the windchill now.

Only ended up with a dusting here, after having flooding rain.  We went from near 60 yesterday around noon to under 30 just after dark.  Guess it was bad enough ice on the roads in town in spots this morning that our church cancelled everything.  Was not supposed to get above 28 today, but the slop is melting some and the ground is not froze hear as hard as I expected it to be.  Checked traps this morning and the water was open, guess it was moving steady enough to keep it from freezing.

Gonna need to put hay out late this evening or first thing in the morning, a cab tractor sure would be nice.  Prefer to wait until the ground is frozen in the morning if I can hold off.

How many cords of wood do Y'all go through?

I got a boiler that will take corn, or wood pellets, I ordered 8 ton of bulk wood pellets this winter. I hire a local farm feed truck to go pick it up and unload it in my shed. augers deliver it into boiler hopper.

As far as cold, ya we had a very cold weekend, and this a.m. we had problems with filters jellying up even tho we have been running straight  number 1 fuel. Power Service 911 in the filters, dump some in the fuel tank, and that takes care of the problem most times...it was -25 in the Flag River bottom where we are cutting now....fingers go numb instantly, with fuel and cold filters on gloved or bare hands

I get 3 1/2 tons of pellets for my house pellet stove...I have a propane furnace but it doesn't come on very often. I also have heated floors in the basement but I keep that on a low heat because its not used very much. The old F150 didn't like me starting her here in the parking lot this morning after work but she went and I got home ok to a nice warm house....NOW Sat night was not fun at all...-35f with wind chill and heavy snow cause our HVAC units to start plugging up with snow and flame failures ….I was outside most of the night with that going on....not a good night at work.

We run a propane furnace along with wood. Furnace thermostat is only set to 60 max. We go through about 8-10 face cords per winter.

-22F without windchill at the moment. No wind at all and the sun is out so it actually feels nice compared to the past couple days! I don't mind the cold but that wind is a bugger! Had -44F yesterday morning. Snow drifts were 3 feet high in the parking lot at work here. Calling for another 4-6 inches tomorrow. Temp is going to get up to the freezing mark though or slightly above. Bring out the shorts! lol

Got another 10 inches or so Wednesday. Yesterday morning it was almost 40 degrees on the way into work. The day before it was -25 with a -44 windchill lol. Back down into the teens right now. Never know what you're gonna get in this area of the country!

And yes radiant floor heating is awesome. We have it here at work in the shop. It's 70-72 all the time. Bring a snow covered snowmobile in and within a half hour its all melted. The heat recovers quickly too when the big doors are opened when it's cold out.

We got about 16 inches Tuesday night. Got to work at 6am yesterday to plow out the yard. Snow was coming up over the windshield going into the parking lots. Drifts were 5-6 feet high in places! Thank gosh the roads were cleared up for the most part for today, drove down here this morning to Toronto for a course tomorrow at Mercury marine.

Here's the parking lot at work. The 4x4 and Michelin X-ice snow tires compliment each other well!
