Hoyt03
Well I spotlighted last night and to my surprise there were alot of bucks running around in the fields. One was a big 8 or 10 point no more then a mile from my house, and I do not live in the country. Do you think this deer could be living in small patches of woods along a not so remote creek and houses near by? Or do you think this buck taveled 3/4 a mile from the mountain through plenty of fields and crossed the creek to get to these other fields. I have heard bucks travel great distances at night and I think these buks were out last night cruising for does? Any chance he might be bedding up in the small patches of woods, or up in the mtns? thanks for any input
mathews4life
Re: How far will bucks travel at night? Its coincidence u ask this question. I have been gettin pictures of a 9 pt regularly on my camera where i have been feeding. Well i found some really good buck signs and other deer signs at the least a mile and half from my originaly spot. I put some feed out and set up my cam. Went back a few days later checked out my pics and wouldn't u know i had numerous pics of the same deer i had been getting pics of at my original spot. I never thought they would wonder that far. I also got pics of him in another spot in b/w the two. Now i dont know where to hunt lol...he's EVERYWHERE.

Hoyt03
Re: How far will bucks travel at night? Another thing I didnt mention is that i spotted him only about an hour and half past dark, and I know for a fact he wouldnt have moved until last light, or a little past last light. I think I'm going to sit back in this wood strip tomorrow evening from and edge and see if deer are in here, then possibly set up for the kill if i see something. Mathews4life LoL. Atleast you know he is still in the area. These deer are tough to pattern sometimes, it takes a little luck to be at the right spot at the right time. SaskMan
Re: How far will bucks travel at night? A deer can walk 1/2 mile in 5 minutes, they'll travel miles at night........easily.
py_archer
Re: How far will bucks travel at night? I believe a buck's home range is roughly 4 sq miles, a doe's is much smaller. Do you know where the doe's bed? If you do I would pick a spot near there. Good Luck!
wtnhunt
Re: How far will bucks travel at night? Really think it varies greatly based on many variables. If there is an abundance of food and good water sources and cover available it might not be a very large area at all.
