Labor day weekend check in

Big plans anyone? 

Hoping to get quite a bit done this weekend if I can.  Mowing and yardwork, spraying plots, separating some cows and figuring out why our 4 wheeler is still sputtering after rebuilding the carb.  Might try to get our two person ladder stand up over the bottom if I can get some help with it, usually put it up by myself but probably shouldn't.  Have a couple other stands I would like to get up. 

Dunno yet if or when our two oldest daughters might get by for the long weekend.  Cooked some good food and that usually brings em around, but Christina had already committed to going with her husband and taking the baby and seeing her sister in law in Knoxville Saturday and Sunday.  She said they might get by Monday for a visit.

anywho,.. I finished the Oak unit we been cutting early today, we go back into pine for Potlatch Plant in Gwinn Mich on Tues.

got my truck in and got a new wiper motor installed today

stands are ready, and am just monitoring cams to see what sticks around after they shed velvet next couple of weeks.

Going to friend place for bbq on Saturday. Sunday and Monday is 5 man team trap shoot so will be at the gun club both days. My wife works in the office at the club for our big shots so she will be there both days as well. Get some yard work done Saturday before the bbq. Temps here in southern Ontario have been cooling down which has been nice for working in and fall is just around the corner.

Thanks Martin.  Catrina and Allison will help me as much as they can.  Allison is excited about getting to hunt that stand.  Usually use the loader on the tractor to help with that 2 person stand, pushing it in place would not be much of an issue if not for the cover limbs in front.  I may let Catrina mow the yard this afternoon, we'll see how things go. 

Got some cows taken care of already this morning before it gets too hot.  Have a little one to give some shots.  Need to go to tsc to pick up a few things then move him and momma cow to another pasture, they are already caught in the round pen though so no chasing.

Not much doing around here this weekend, will probably grill some burgers on Monday, otherwise just taking it easy for a few days as I am for once a bit ahead on my CHRISTmas orders.

Had a pretty busy day today, got up pretty early, looked at the thermometer and it was 42 degrees, nearly had frost up in the valley, was 36 there! Anyway I got some tree trimming done and weed whacked, raked all that junk up and made about 5 trips to the woods with brush and stuff. Nice to get the yard all cleaned up. Tomorrow I am going to start tearing into the engine in my father in laws Silverado, it's throwing a code for a timing error so it likely needs a new timing chain. If I have any time left I'd like to get back to the stand and do some brushing back there. Turned the cam on a couple weeks ago and ended up getting over 4000 pics of the brush moving in the wind lol. Might get some more wood cut and split too. Emma is off to kindergarten this week, she's very excited! Can't believe shes going to school already. Where does the time go...

Just got back from spending some time up in the mountains.  The elk have been bugling at night for the past several weeks and I got a glimpse of one large six point in the early morning light.  Also saw multiple whitetail bucks that were definite keepers.  Only saw one bull moose and he wasn't the one I'd want to hang my tag on.  It is greener in the mountains than I have ever seen it at this time of year thanks to ample rainfall the past two months.

This coming week I need to retrieve my trail cameras before the opening of archery season on the 7th.  That will take a couple of days as a couple of them are a long way from a road.  Then finish up preparations for the next three months of hunting, which will include one more session of shooting the rifle and launching another hundred arrows.  The 15th of the month starts the moose season and I plan on carrying the rifle lashed to my pack and have the bow in hand.  I'll have to see how that works out.

I spent both Sat and yesterday working on vinyl siding the new garage here. Have 3 sides done now. Just need to do the front and will start on that today. 

I didn't side all day. I split the transmission off from the rear end of this tractor and tore into the PTO. Someone has been here before and didn't put a thrust washer back in properly. That damaged a couple of shim washers and a circlip. I looked up the part numbers at New Holland online and will order them and a couple of seals on Tuesday. Parts will cost about $150 so not too bad. Have the exteriors pressure washed and degreased now. Will get some sanding and priming done and they will be ready for paint and reassembly.

I wouldn't want to have to do this wrenching stuff for a living but do enjoy it as a form of stress relief. Nothing to do with hunting tho but that's always in the back of my mind.
