Dangerous situation

as most of you know i always promote safety as much as the rest of you.. i always check my stands before season to make sure they are ok... i did that this year ... and i didnt find anything wrong..

so yesterday i pulled a stand and when i went to put it up in another location i found that the over cam buckle had metal fatigue .. it was pretty close to breaking .. it gives me the shakes to think about what would have happened if it had broken when i was in it..

check out this pic of it...as you can see the middle piece is supposed to be straight noe bent like that .. the metal is split on the edges almost all the way through...

i so lucky i found this before problems happened...

Re: Dangerous situation

Good post Tony.

I like the idea of an extra ratchet stap on any hang on stand. Only takes a second to do, and it is worth the piece of mind it gives you. I always give the stand a real good tug before I climb into it. Was watching a Jay Gregory vid about a month ago, and it shows one of his stands, laying on the ground in the snow. squirrels or something chewed through the webbing. Imagine if it wasn't chewed completely through, and he got into that stand! shocked.gif

It is something that has just stuck with me this year, checking the stand before I climb into it.
