fly
The payoff of a lifetime dream happened Sunday, November 3rd. For those that may not know... after saving and prioritizing other things my entire life I was finally able to purchase a small parcel of ground (32 acres) to make my dream a reality. I've spent many hours making trails, hanging stands, and putting in food plots. Finally decided to stick this buck with my crossbow at 30 yards. He was quartering away pretty hard - took out liver, lung, and even grazed the heart. The tip was sticking in the upper left leg. He's not the giant I had seen on camera or from the stand a few days earlier but he will do just fine. Thinking about something special like a Texas mount dipped in camo paint. I really like this picture. Edited November 6, 2019 by fly
wtnhunt
What did you end up planting Frank? Anymore issues with the neighboring property owner. Congratulations again on the buck.
fly
I put in brassica turnips and kale. My lawyer wrote the neighbor a letter. I found a law that states it’s a class A crime to remove survey posts. I had my lawyer add that to the letter. That was back in early August. Haven’t heard anything since. The corn field you see is a different neighbor. I gave him permission to recover from my ground and he did the same. So odd that that buck ran from the wooded bottom up to the corn field to die. wtnhunt
Sounds like you have a good neighbor on that side Frank. I know some states allow recovery on land you don't have permission on, and some others you can see the deer just across the line and even though it is not posted it is unlawful to recover without permission. Yeah, funny how deer sometimes go the least likely places and sometime do things you would not expect them to.
Rhino
Congratulations again Frank. Yep...some states allow and encourage recovery. For some that do, you can't take a weapon past your property line to recover game. Bummer you got one bad neighbor Frank. We do too in Missouri and in Mississippi. Just thankful to have the good neighbors we have. Over the years, seen a lot of strange actions by deer after they've been hit. From running out into fields then dropping to running right back toward me and bounce off of a tree. Not sure how many just trotted off 10 to 40 yards and stopped but didn't even have a clue an arrow blew through them until their legs wouldn't hold them up anymore. fly
Thanks everyone. Been getting more different bucks moving through on camera than I ever would have thought. None of them live here - just using my creek as a travel corridor. All there were in early November.

"JUST"...LMBO...nothing wrong with that at all! Got some of those sort of "travel corridor" stands in Missouri too. You know how those bucks are there...cruising from around the last 3 days in October though early November. You can have action just about any time of the day. I have noticed on those type of stands that I have in Missouri, the 1st 30 or so minutes in the morning and the last 30 or so minutes in the afternoon are slower for movement than other stands closer to a crop field food source. Trail cams show that too by those stands. Edited November 12, 2019 by Rhino
Ravin R10 man
Congrats Frank, you got a honey hole with the corridor. Pics prove that.
Chris76
You pick the right 30 plus acres to buy. Congrats on your success and I can tell your the type of hunter to let the little bucks go and hunt the old boys.
fly
Having so much fun with this place. The dates on those pics are wrong they were early November. I shot a nice buck with my crossbow and never recovered him. A week later he shows up on several of my cameras. He's number one on the hit list. If you look close at his right shoulder you can see what appears to be the hematoma and at the bottom it looks like the tip of the bolt pushing the skin out. There also appears to be an entry wound at the top. My guess is the bolt hit the shoulder and followed it down instead of penetrating. No wonder my day long search resulted in nothing. fly
I am - my son got one of them in the pictures above during the gun season. He got the one dated 10 Oct at 7:06. It was actually November 10th. I'll put his picture below. I passed on this buck twice as he was only 3.5 years old and already a 12 pointer. However, it was my sons biggest to date so he had the green light. I also saw the buck picture on November 4th at 4:37pm and let him walk. Another 3.5 year old. Haven't seen the big 8 pictured last since the gun season. No pics either. Thinking a neighbor took him out.
