BowtechTurkeyHunter Posted October 17, 2004 Report Share Posted October 17, 2004 Got in my stand this morning about 6:30 got all setled in watched the sun come up and light up the tree tops then about 7:15 in came a little forked 6 point buck. We'd seen him before and passed him up too let him get bigger came right in nose too the ground right too my deer drag that I had hanging in the tree about 20 yards in front of my tree... was cool too see him ... he walks up the loggin road after about 5 mins of smelling stuff so I messed with him a little I grunted a little ... he imediately turned around and came back too the opening .... coulda shot him 3 or four different times ... was very cool too be able too work a deer like that ... then at about 7:50 I hear deer running down the other ridge towards me so I grab my bow and get ready they come in and seem too slow down when they get wind of the drag they where 2 does one very large doe and the other a yearling .... at 20 yards or what I thought was 20 yards the larger doe stopped so i pulled back and let err rip... yep you guessed it right ver her back ... she jumped back behind some bushes and I could see her head she looked around and flashed her tail quickly and started walking a different trail up too the logging road when she too 4 or so steps she stopped and looked right up towards me amazing how they can pinpoint that stuff but wasnt too worried so she walked about 4 more feet into a small clearing but I was sitting and had no shot so I pulled back stood up all in one motion put my 25 yard pin on her and drilled her went clean through her got a lung and near as I can figure got a piece of the liver too she kinda jump a little went about 10 steps stopped and turned broadside I could see it was a great hit about 30 secs later she just layed down ... the other little doe is ina panic now of course she is circling her mom at about 50 yards from my stand so I was thinking wow double does but the little doe never gave me a clean shot ... meanwhile I am watching this other doe bedded down after the hit ... was very cool it was just like in the tv shows... arrow hits deer runs 10 feet lays down and dies.... very cool when I could she she had dies I got down and retrieved both arrows ... the reason I think I got a piece of the liver is cause I was kinda back on the exit but my arrow was cover in very dark blood and the deer died within 10 mins of the shot I know I got the lung facign me but wasnt eable too see a double lung hit on the field dressing but the liver or what looked like the liver lol was about cut in 2 pieces ... so have my first deer down of 2004 I was very please with the new broadheads I had used I was using nudgent 2 blade but swtiched up too the NAP nitros ... very small broad head but man what a hole it punched in this deer at 25 years ... when we dressed her out you could see the triangle cut that the broadhead made on entry was very cool ... I have pics and will post them soon as I get em scanned ... we didnt have the digital so we used our 35mm ... well sorry about rambling on and on but I am very excited ... the doe dressed out at about 120 or so and on the hoof estimated her at about 140 or 160 maybe ... Im not good at weight estimates but she was a very large doe big head.... The other thing that sorta puzzled me that I hadnt ever had too deal with was that this doe was still lactating and had a full utter of milk ... I just had too cut it out so I could field dress the deer never had that experience with an utter before specially lactating with milk thought it was kinda wierd this time of year ... maybe not... I just never had this before ....she will be some awesome eating though I cant wait too butcher her up ... I just never had this before . [/ QUOTE ] I have shot does in the first week of December that were still wet with milk.One of them was alone, and one was with 2 real good sized fawns.
