elkoholic
In somewhat the same vein as the post on societal shift, my thought train arrived at the question of why people are so enthralled with violence. From UFC/MMA, WWE, boxing, and any other full contact sport, people gather to watch opponents beat on each other. Going to hockey games to see the inevitable fights or the racetrack to see the wrecks are things many crave. To top it off, what was once mainly a male tendency has now spread to the females of the species as it has become a more acceptable form of expression for them. In a fight for food, water, and breeding rights all creatures seem to be alike. Many fight to defend territory, but few species, if any, fight just to fight. I have seen elk and deer go at it for the chance at servicing a female and for the most part the females ignore them as they battle. When it comes to the big screen (or the small screen) and digital games, violence seems to be the big seller. So, Why? What gives? Do you thirst for the violence? I don't. wtnhunt
I honestly don't now. I did used to enjoy watching sporting events, was into following a couple sports back in my time before getting married, and continued to follow football until more recently. In my teens did go to several "badman contests", think they eventually got banned. Those were in central Florida, over 30 years ago, there were some pretty tough guys that came back each time and I just wanted to see them win more so than seeing them beat the other guys bloody. I honestly don't know if mma existed in the United States at that time. As far as the female violent nature increasing, maybe hormones and stuff being pumped into all the fast foods people eat. Maybe society and social media. Suspect there are a combination of contributing factors. One thing I can say for certain is that the current stress with covid and the uncertainty in our society is making for tense times that likely elevates irritability. I'm not sure I would consider that violence. The resulting death of the critter would not be a violent death. Being torn apart by wolves would be violent, or if you were to beat something to death with a rock. I do not know you, but I am sure you do not find joy in the death of the prey you kill. Joy in the success of the harvest, but sadness at the life you have taken is the heart of a hunter. Humans seem to find joy in (or watching others) harming or killing other humans. There are people who kill animals for the fun of it too, but they are not true hunters and simply have no respect for life. That would be a whole other post.
