oneshot442
I grew up in the North and once that cool weather came in the fever was on . Thats all I thought about, night and day . I use to dream about it all the time . Since I moved to North Carolina it is unbelievable hot during the bow season. I have thought about going out but i just keep thinking its way to hot to hunt . I feel that I have to recover a deer within a half hour after the kill and gut it . If i dont the meat will definitely spoil and it would be a waste. I feel i owe it to the animal that im hunting to properly do the things im supposed to do while hunting and recovering and processing. what do y’all think about hunting the hot weather and how to enjoy hunting in the hot weather for me im waiting for the temperatures to drop to atleast 70. I will be hunting in a ground blind for the first time in my life . Since I became disabled im afraid to climb 30 ft in the air God Bless and Happy Hunting!! wtnhunt
Would be hard for me to get motivated to kill something when it is that warm, in the 90's. Since we do all our own processing, like you say it turns into a rush effort to get the deer quartered and in the cooler on ice quickly when the temps are warm. I have not been out much the past few years during our archery/crossbow season here, usually will wait and only go when it is cooler in the mornings. We do still get warm days in our muzzleloader and gun season here, my wife does not mind the warm days, so she usually goes those days. She has killed a few big bucks on warmer afternoons. Ravin R10 man
Welcome to RT Forums! Hot weather, sooner the better to have it taken care of and in a cooler. Even here in Northern Wis. I try to get the animal gutted skinned and hangin in the cooler within an hour. No matter what the temp is.
Turkeygirl
Good luck and welcome to RT! Usually by the time our deer season starts in NY, it's not typically hot but we have had some warm falls and I do not like hunting in warm weather because of wanting to keep the meat cool....and our deer here do not move much. I don't want to worry about hurrying to recover a deer because it's so warm and risk meat spoilage. 40s to 50s for a max day time temp. I like...if it hits 60 or higher, I'll like skip the deer and hunt small game instead.
