Addct2hntng
when looking down a shotgun barrel what should be some things to watch for and to see if certian shells are tearing it up ? smooth and shiny or kinda dull? thx in advance
robk
Re: might be a dumb question lol usually you will find pitting if the shell is too hot and also you will notice the twist unless it isa smooth bore. also you might look for a some out of round spots like a warp. but i would also have your gun shop check it out as well as they have ways and better equipment to check out your barrel rob k
AJ
Re: might be a dumb question lol It all depends on what kind of loads you are firing. Some powders are dirtier than others. To examine for damage, thoroughly clean the bore. This means getting rid of all the plastic wad fouling if you are shooting shot loads or sabots, or lead if you are shooting rifled slugs. Once the bore is clean and shiny, hold the bore towards a light source (no the sun!) and look down the bore and see if the surface is consistant the entire length of the bore. If there are streaks they are either fouling you did not get out or are scratches made by non toxic shot. You should see rings where the choke is. You an also look to see if there are any bulges in the barrel.
