Neat buck.........forked left G2..........but he needs another year or two. Nice photos! He should be really interesting in a year or two Edited October 21, 2020 by RangerClay
RangerClay
I put my second dry baldy in the freezer. I don't know about you guys but the only good thing about 2020 is I'm seeing more deer than ever.
elkoholic
The first weekend of rifle season was bitter cold with Sunday being the coldest. It was minus 9 when I parked the truck Sunday morning and after a one mile hike to the edge of a clear-cut facing into a stiff northeast wind I had a few thoughts concerning my sanity. The deer, and one bull moose, did not seem to mind the cold as they fed their way across the opening. All together I saw plenty of deer (approx. 70) the first couple of days, but nothing I wanted to shoot. The big mature bucks did not show themselves and with any luck that will change as the rut is only a couple of weeks away. At least the temperatures are going to return to normal this week and I won't need multiple layers of clothes to keep from freezing. Happy hunging! Strut10
Did a morning sit Saturday. Creek bottom stand again. Did some rattling/grunting. Saw 6 different bucks. Had 4 come in at one time (3 different directions) to one sequence !! Unfortunately, none of them were shooters. Starting this Saturday, I'm all in for 12 days of tree time, so............. We shall see.
RangerClay
I will have this uploaded to the scoreboard after I process him Wednesday. Saturday morning I saw this 8 point buck way back behind me. Not rutting at all, just wandering and eating. He started to circle me and when he turned to come in front of me I had to wait while he ate his last meal of apples. About 4 or 5 of them. He stepped into my lane at 35 yards and I let the Spitfire fly. He only went about 30 yards, stopped and tipped over!

Strut10
Brief summary of my last 2 weeks......................... It has SUCKED. No rut activity whatsoever. Total lack of deer and deer movement. I have seen a grand total of ONE 3 1/2 year old buck........and he ain't PA legal. He's a heavy 6-pointer about 18-19 inches wide. And not legal under our antler restrictions. Worst archery season I've seen since I started bowhunting 41 years ago.
Turkeygirl
Hi guys! I'm still here. There was some glitch and the forums was not displaying the text box to type in. Anyhow I got an 8 point the last day of archery season so I will get him entered! ? Still hoping for a buck with the gun but it's been slow for movement since season started on the 21st

elkoholic
Thought I better check in although there is no good news. Hunting season ended yesterday and I did not fill my tag. I passed up several bucks as there weren't any that I wanted to take that were within a reasonable range. The only one I definitely would have taken was a ranged 576 yards across a clear cut. I did manage to rattle in three pretty decent bucks and overall had a good season. Some medical issues (on top of existing back/leg issues) came to light which limited hunting time. This may have been my last season hunting as next year isn't looking very promising. Congratulations to those who filled their tag(s) and good luck if you're still in the hunt. I'm surprised you haven't wrapped that old flintlock around a tree. Years ago and far away (not that far from you actually) I hunted both NJ and PA muzzleloader seasons and although I never had a misfire at the range I certainly did while hunting. One large buck comes to mind that my taxidermist did not get to make any money on. A hang fire also cost me a nice buck as several seconds passed between flint strike and the gun firing. Ah, the joys and frustrations of a muzzleloader. I wish MT had a muzzleloader season, either flintlock or percussion cap with no inlines and no smaller than caliber bullets (sabots). All I know is when I went to drag him, it was like I tied onto a rooted tree, lol.
