Any new toys planned this year?

Anyone planning on buying something new for their collections this year? While I am waithing for my custom LH mauser 35 Whelen to be finished I took the plunge and bought a new (1960s vintage wink.gif) Savage 99F in 308. I always wanted a 99 I could scope. Just to complete this retro package I picked up an old Redfield Widefield 4x scope for it. It should be a fun hunting rifle.

So what do you guys have in the works?

iron buck, sounds like a good plan for you smile.gif

I spent alot, for me, last year on a Beretta o/u 20 ga. I don't know what I might do this year yet ? It is possible I might get back into shotshell reloading, if I do, I will need everything for it. A far as rifles, I would like a new .22, probably a 10-22.

Re: Any new toys planned this year?

Yes my mauser is a CD action. I was going to use a McMillan stock, but they consider it a custom application and teh cost is over $600 tongue.gif. So I most likely will be using a PA stockmaker & a nice chunk of XX or XXX english walnut grin.gif I am also going to use a 3 position Gentry safety & timney adjustable trigger. When complete it will wear a Leupold VX-III 2.5-8X scope (my favorite). I may also have a quarter rib & front sight mated to the barrel. I will post pictures as teh project progresses. I already have some pics under the 35 Whelen link in your cartridge sticky note section. grin.gif

Re: Any new toys planned this year?

i dont think i'll be getting any more guns either. if i do it will be a shotgun, Remington 1100 in 28ga. i bought a Browning BLR .300 WSM in december, so that put a little dent in the wallet grin.gif i still have to get a scope on it. it will probably have one by the end of may when college is done and i'm working. smile.gif

AJ

Thanks for the link grin.gif I will call them Monday. Maybe my rifle can be finished sooner than I thought. If I go the full custom route I'd be lucky to have it by hunting season tongue.gif. But the guy I would have do it, Gary Stiles, makes some outstanding traditional stocks.

I'm just about done with getting new guns. I'm going to spend my money on hunts. Plan on a caribou hunt & the usual elk hunt in October. Also plan on bidding on a pig hunt in TX at the local NWTF banquet this coming weekend. If I get it at a good price--I may try & combine it with a Rio hunt or an exotic.

Re: Any new toys planned this year?

I'm just about finished with this years project gun.

I picked up a very clean Rem. 700 ADL in 7mag earlier this year. Came across a used HS precision stock in one of the local shops. Picked up a complete BDL triggerguard and mag box off of eBay. Purchased a Shilen trigger and Burris Pos-Align rings then topped it off with a Leupold Vari-X III that I traded dartonman a shotgun for.

I went ahead and bedded the action and filled the barrel channel then sent it off to a buddy for a paint job. He's gonna paint the stock olive drab with black splatter. Hopefully I'll see it within the next week. I'll post pics when I get it back....

Re: Any new toys planned this year?

After building a new bolt gun last year, I promised myself no new toys for a while.

Well.........I ran across a Winchester Model 94 XTR in 7-30 Waters (very rare combination) which was the hardest piece to find for a little collection I'm accumulating. It apperad to possibly not even be fired. So............ smirk.gif ...........that's my toy for this year. grin.gif

Re: Any new toys planned this year?

We're having an unexpected and unplanned son this year. We have to get a bigger vehicle to acomidate the family. My wife has her heart set on a Toyota Sequoia. So the only toys I'm buying for a while are probibly going to be brightly colored and plastic. grin.gif
