elkoholic Posted June 28, 2021 Report Share Posted June 28, 2021 As the Pacific Northwest withers away from the heat, I can only hope this summer we do not disappear in the smoke of a forest fire. We are incredibly dry for this time of year and with the July 4th holiday fast approaching with its inevitable pyromaniacs on the loose it could be an interesting start to the summer. It was 118 degrees in Walla Walla, Wa. yesterday and here at my house in the northwest corner on Mt. it was just over 100. The rest of the week is predicted to be the same, or hotter, with humidity in the single digits. Even my trail cam didn't like the heat and took this oddly colored pic. wtnhunt Posted June 28, 2021 Report Share Posted June 28, 2021 That is hot, even without humidity. Our heat indexes have been running over 100, but actual temps in the low 90's. As you can imagine, I am limiting my time outside right now. Walks in the mornings. Stay safe, hope there are no issues with fires/smoke there this year. 92xj Posted June 29, 2021 Report Share Posted June 29, 2021 Yeah, it's brutal. I'm 50 minutes west of walla walla, right now it is 110 at the house. A large fire is brewing with all this tender, I really hope elk season doesn't get screwed up as I missed it last year with surgery and it's killing me to get back in the woods. We are headed to glacier on Thursday for 4 days. Sadly it's going to be stupid hot up there too, but anything below 100 is better than 110-118 we are dealing with here. Have patience with the construction (it's everywhere around Kalispell and on to West Glacier) and keep an eye out for the crazy drivers. If you are planning on driving the Going-to-the-Sun-Road, hope you have your permit already as it will be a busy holiday weekend. At least you can roll in the snow at Logan Pass to cool off. Yes know what everyone is feeling darn hot here too. It's been 50 years since we had 104°F in Alberta that's 40°C. We are still 29°C or somewhere in the mid to high 80's F. Wife wanted to buy another air conditioner yah good luck on that one, they are either o.o.s or sold out. The one we bought 5 years ago still works fine so we suffer through the day and set it for 18°C so we can sleep at night in the bedroom. Well everyone still hydrated, have a cool shower. I like to start with water that is the same temperature as a lake when you alley oop off the dock some may not want to start there, but it is invigorating. It's amazing what a person can get used to for water temp just like rivers in the foothills in mid September when your hunting, burr ,shiver. Once was enough for me. The temperatures had dropped to the mid 90's the past couple of weeks but are predicted to climb to triple digits again this weekend. Low humidity and constant winds have added to the dry conditions. We are currently in stage 2 fire restrictions which are: Building maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. Logging operations must stop between 1:00 PM and 1:00 AM. There are so many fires that personnel and equipment are in short supply. Sometimes the smoke is so thick you can taste it. I feel sorry for those who have lost their homes to fires and hope those who had to evacuate, just in case, have a home to come back to.
